Have been sitting looking out the window since Monday hoping for a break in the hail, rain, arctic winds, starting to get stir crazy, havenāt run since Saturday WTF, when did this happen? when did I care about running? Odd, but I was brought up in times when girls werenāt allowed to do anything especially running (talking the 60ās here) in a country where women were the first to get the vote for goodness sake! Our sports day at school , the boys allowed to do a long distance run (circuit of sports field) girls not! This indignant 11 year old recent import from the UK got the other girls together, talked to the headmaster and result we got our run and every year after that. C25 doesnāt discriminate like. Well done all of us! and when I ran today I thought of that little girl and those that say to us you canāt or shouldnāt do this. We can and we are.
Anyway, as I do, I digress, the mercury rose to single figures 8 degrees, almost sub tropical! so on with thick tights, gloves and cap. āClose your eyes and tap your heels together three times and think to yourself thereās no place like homeā I was well ready by then puffed, beetroot red as usual, couldnāt bloody wait and so stumbled to my first 6 km.
PS discovered that I am descended from Beth Hesmondhalgh, suffragette from Preston. My Dad if he was still with us would say so thats where you get your lip from!
