Skipping...

Was just reading a post on the Internet that stated that skipping is good for you.

Does anyone on here skip as part of their exercise regime?

I don't think me and the old exercise bike is going to form a long lasting relationship. I'm already using it as a foot rest. So I think I'll treat myself to a skipping rope.

I think it would be good aerobic workout and fun as you can incorporate different skipping steps..and tricks if you want to be really fancy 💃💃my sister has got a weird virtual skipping rope..it counts skips but has no rope..very strange..

I'd stick with the bike for the time being. Cycling is low-impact on your knees. I'd guess that even light-footed skipping would constitute fairly high-impact exercise on your knees. Plus skipping is totally knackering.

Be interesting to hear what wiser heads than mine reckon tho.

Yeah I was thinking the same but I would like to do something that helps with my arms. I know running is a good all over workout but I feel my upper half especially arms aren't getting a workout.

Maybe I'll check out some sort of boxing class instead or swimming.

My bingo wings seem to be getting bigger! Lots of skin flapping in the breeze 😂

Agree with sallenson that skipping is totally knackering. Swimming should be good tho. Let me know what you discover - maybe I’ll join you!! 🤪

Oh you're not the only one with some bingo wings. I could give British Airways a run for their money with mine. I used to love swimming but I haven't been for years. I was however a very good swimmer back in the day.

As long as the pool is somewhat empty where I can just swim up and down, I'd be very happy.

Bet you could glide gracefully thru the air like a flying squirrel tho. Or Batman :-)

Skipping is one of the most efficient full body cardio exercises bar none. Double unders particularly. Because skipping is generally much shorter duration than running etc, impact really isn't a problem unless your knees are made of chalk.

Although if you want to involve your arms more, perhaps burpees would be better. The 5 minute burpee challenge is still going... may be for a lot longer than originally anticipated, in fact, as progress is pretty slow... although results good so far

Ouch... just Googled the burpee challenge.

Think I might give it a try. I surely can't look at worse at doing them than when I started running.

Thanks for the idea.

Hi try “bring sally up - push up challenge”

in reply toleelee70

I just bought up some videos on YouTube. Wow.... that definately looks like a fat burn and toner exercise right there. I particularly like the one where instead of the full pushup, you go down into the plank position.

To be honest with you, I've not even tried to do a plank before but this challenge looks like something I'd try out.

Thank you for the info.

I have done 1 050 skips per day for the last month helps core, upper body and legs feel stronger .... PB on a park run 30 second improvement. Feel great ... if you jump on a mat / flexible wood floor it should not damage your body. One can condition ones body over six months starting with 10 skips per minute and increase to 120 skips per minute. I am at 84 per minute.

Not what you're looking for?
