That didn’t go so well wk8R1

Well I will put that one down to experience! I got through it but only just. It was too hot, I was too thirsty, I was dehydrated, my legs were too heavy and to top it all off the podcast I chose to run to was rubbish. I don’t know what I was thinking, I went off too fast and I got out of breath. I should know better after 8 weeks. So I’ve told myself off and will do better next time!

Very well done for hanging in there and completing.👏👏

Every run is good learning and Miles in the bank towards your building.

Just a thought if you can run without music, your bad choice music today, there is a school that thinks the best way to pace yourself is by listening for any change in both your breathing and footfall.Probably need no music to do that.Maybe worth a thought to try once sometime to tune into your own body.🤔

Keep smiling.🌟👏👏

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply toTbae

I will definitely try that during the next run, just me and my feet no music and see how that goes. Thank you

Debsy2008 profile image
Debsy2008Graduate in reply toTbae

Oooo I will try without music too as I felt really clumsy tonight (was listening to music and don’t usually so maybe that’s it!) thanks for the heads up 🙌🏼

Tbae profile image
Tbae in reply toDebsy2008

You can google it, loads of info.🤔👏👏

I was the opposite, techie dinasaur, no playist, just me and MJ.Sorry I misunderstood you normally run without.👍👏👏

Many schools favour that.🤔

Now using the 5k+ Laura’s podcasts for graduates with audio fuel, fabulous though and a great help with the bpm.Something for you to look forward to.👏👏

But I think listening to your own breathing and footfall and recognising when it changes may help to better recognise and control not going off too fast and if you have speeded up.etc. It is not easy for anyone.🌟👏👏

That's very interesting Tbae - going to google it to find out more after dinner. I'm a musician and I run "naked" using an interval timer to let me know when to walk/run. Was wondering about running to music but what you've said there makes a lot of sense x

in reply toTbae

My friend also swears by that, says it's good thinking time. Personally, I love my sounds too much and tonight it was Electric Dreams...loved it!!

Yes your right we are all so uniquely different and have different needs. It is about finding them perhaps and trialling them maybe.🤔👏👏Lovely posts yesterday on doing it and finding our way.

I guess like running are we ever the finished article or always a work in progress to eternity.

Continuous learning,improvement and enjoyment forever.

Keep loving your music.

It talks to your soul.

I like your friend love my thinking time, but I am not sure the boss shares the results.🤔🙈😂😂😂

Keep enjoying and smiling.🌟👏👏

Don't worry about that, happens to all. Many start speeding up when uncomfortable, making things worse, that's normal.

In order to feel better when running in warm weather you must hydrate well a day BEFORE the run. Drink at least 2-3 litres of water in regular intervals, and do that every day but never drink lots before the run, that would simply ruin it all, try and you'll see.

If you hydrate properly that will reduce cramps, 'heavy legs' and general discomfort.

Finally, if you must run in the peak sun, seek shade, wear a cap and comfy kit, just shorts and top. Or you can run early or late in the day. And if it's really too hot then skip it, your fitness won't suffer a single missed run or even a few.

Hope it helps!

Great advice.👏👏

mrrun profile image
mrrunGraduate in reply toTbae

I had to do all that on a different level. Last year I holidayed in Croatia and for three weeks the temperature didn’t drop below 30C. Daytime peaks were close to 40C, and you don’t run then, that’s for sure.

So, for me it as very early, right after dawn and even then the sensation was crazy. I am not a big sweater but then I was literary melting, even my eyebrows were dripping. Evenings were a no-no, because the day heat and humidity made it really awkward. Regardless, it was a fantastic experience and cooling down in the warm sea afterwards was priceless!

Tbae profile image
Tbae in reply tomrrun

I love it and eyebrows dripping, must remember that one.😂😂

Worked out in the Gulf in the 70’s,12O Deg F shaded and 100 % humidity, in a smelter of all places.Did not run,🤔😂 you could burn your feet on the beach, we were fed salt tablets daily.🤔🙈😂😂😂

I hear you my running friend.👏👏

Always enjoy reading your advice, replies and some of your story in the FAQ Posts.

Courageous and hope all your running plans are being realised.

Thank you.🌟👏👏

mrrunGraduate in reply toTbae

Of course, a normal human would think, hang on, why don't you simply just swim? I mean, it's also a great cardio workout, the sea is clear and warm and you are less likely to collapse in a heap of heat exhaustion!? Honest answer? I literary never thought of that, haha....

You did it, well done for hanging in there.

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply toTkaye

I did hang on , only because I definitely didn’t want to repeat it 😂

mrrun profile image
mrrunGraduate in reply toJullaly

Repeating, especially when things are working for you, is not bad at all. We are not in this to hit targets, we are in control and goal posts can be moved if needed.

I repeated the entire C25K, before l drilled 10K afterwards and thought 'that is it, l can do it', and then took time, tweaked and repeated sections of weeks on the way to completing my first half marathon.

Enjoy yourself, that's what counts. Don't rush, don't push, it's your showtime here. Listen to other guys but, ultimately, listen to your body more. If you know why you're doing this then just hang in there, take whatever time needed and you'll get there, even with an odd injury (or two, in my case). ;)

Well done you did it anyway.

That seems to be my motto at the moment 'I should of known better' as am now on the IC due to knee as thought I was a 25 year old athlete. Today I am 51 and I really do feel all my years! :(

You are doing really well. Well done! :)

I had exactly the same problems this morning, albeit on W7R2. I now know that the early morning runs are essential at this time of year. I ran later today and it was way too hot. Thank you for helping me to feel better! We still did it!

We did it indeed, I was determined to finish it because I definitely didn’t want to do it again! 😂

Been there! Found week 7 intolerable. I didn't realise I could go slower, but I can; it really helped. And a rubbish podcast does nothing for motivation. But one more closer!! 👍👍👍

Nothing worse than bad music while you run either but onto the next one 🏃‍♀️

Next one won’t be as bad because I will prepare properly, I’ve been drinking more water today and re hydrating myself

Well done you for completing the run, I had a complete failure on R2, too hot, too hilly and first time of the treadmill, just couldn’t do it, walked most of the way! felt awful, but have now given myself a good talking to and back on track, and back on the treadmill. Lol. Repeated R2 and did R 3 tonight, start W9 on Wednesday, want to get this in the bag before I turn 58 on 30th May. Xx

Thanks and happy birthday to you too when it comes, Never in a million years did I ever imagine that I would be able or even want to run for 28 mins non stop and hopefully I will manage 30 mins on Wed. Good luck with your next run, the finish line is in sight. Xx

You did it. Good for you ! 👍 imagine 28 minutes 😳 wish I had the heat experience. I’m still running in 2 fleeces and a t shirt ! Interesting about running without music. You have such a nice place to run. Enjoy run 2.

But didn’t you have the most beautiful view to look at. Sometimes you need to get it wrong to prove everything our mentors say is important. Hydration , slow and steady.

Jullaly profile image
JullalyGraduate in reply toDexy5

Lol I know don’t tell them 😂

You have done so, so well! Loving your posts and your pictures. Hydration is so important, that's why I'm having a couple of beers after my W7R1! A days rest so I can rehydrate. Had a day off today and it was so tempting to have one in the sunshine, but with a run planned I knew better. Looking forward to your next update.
