W7R1 - Did it......

Weather here today was cold, damp, windy and the fog horn was sounding so decided to teadmill it today, also parts of my body were still niggling from Saturday so treadmill a bit more gentle.

I can hardly believe how far I have come in six weeks, from being out of breath to now running for 25 mins and apart from being red and a bit sweaty, no heaving or struggling to breathe, it is great.

Am looking forward to Wednesday and thinking I need some new trainers too.......

Recommendations on trainers welcome. Currently have Reebok flex which have been fine up til my new route, but think need something more supportive for the country paths.

Happy running everyone 😁😁

Well done Looby :)

Sounds very much like my own experiences to date, found myself describing the last 25 minute run as “routine”, which considering what it was like trying to get through the 60 second runs in w1r1, is mind-blowing!

Re trainers, the correct answer of course is to go to a running shop and try a few pairs on.

Being someone who does all their shopping online, doesn’t trust shop assistants, and always wants a bargain (yes, I’m mean!)... I went online for my trail shoes. As Gait Analysis is not relevant for trail shoes, I felt pretty safe going online.

I read about trail shoes extensively, looking for shoes that got good reviews by magazines/websites and also by people who’d bought them. I knew I wanted a wide fitting, so avoided any where reviews said they were a bit narrow. Also because I wanted a shoe for light trail and some road as well, I wanted one that - for a trail shoe - was relatively light. Having hummed and hah-ed about goretex proofing (makes them waterproof, but a bit more sweaty, apparently), I decided I’d prefer that. Finally, I used a shop where I could easily return them if I didn’t like them, which I did for the first pair they sent.

Ended up choosing Asics Fujitrabuco 6 GTX, and by shopping around online I got a pair for exactly half price. Very happy with them to date :)
