New wanna be Runner

Hi guys

So I would love to do the couch to 5k program but have a couple of things holding me back. I know the biggest thing is my will power but I'm a lot overweight which causes issues with a bad knee (I snapped my ACL some years ago and had to have an op)..

Due to my weight, running gives me serious pain in my shins and knee. I reckon I would struggle to even run a minute in my current condition but I would really love to do this

Where do I start?

Well, the fact that you are here tells me you have willpower, and where there's a will there's a way!

You mention injuries and your weight, have you spoken to a doctor to ask his/her opinion.

Are you okay with walking ? maybe start walking at a fast pace for 20 mins, try that a few times, if it goes okay (or if you know already that you could do that) then try week 1 run 1 in this program when you feel ready.

Lots of people do this program, many complete all nine weeks within the nine weeks laid out, others will get as far as week 3 or 4 and decide that they like the walk run walk run approach and that suits them just fine. They just stay at that level.

Take care, good luck and let us know how you get on. Lots of people here and we're all right behind you.

You won't know until you try. What have you got to lose?

The guide tells you all you need to know, if you’re worried about injury then get medical advice and investment in the right running shoes with gait analysis advice could prove worth it if you feel it’s something you can do.

Give it a go, you might surprise yourself!
