Calf pain advice needed!

Hi - I completed W9 three weeks ago and have been consolidating by repeating the runs. This morning, I ran for 20 mins and then got a sharp pain in my left calf. I hobbled home - couldn’t jog - and am still hobbling and in pain now. Any thoughts/advice?

We aren't qualified to give out medical advice...but that sounds painful. Try elevating your leg, ice (bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel) for about 20 min periods. If it doesn't seem to be settling you may need to seek medical advice from your GP or a sports therapist. Rest from running obviously til you can walk pain free.

Someone may have had the same experience..

Bluebirdrunner gives good advice - if in doubt see your gp/physio. It does sound like a muscle strain or maybe a small tear. If it is you need to rest it until you are completely pain free and then reintroduce running carefuly. It is very frustrating when things like this happen (I had a nasty calf tear a few years ago) but hopefully you won't be out for too long. Fingers crossed for you.

We are not experts as the others say.

I have experience of a calf injury...( a minor calf tear which kept me on the IC for a long time...) ... but... you need to try the rest initially, but if it does not settle I would urge you to get a check up from a Sports Physio...do not run, until it feels completely better or you have been given the all clear:)

me too! I ran yesterday (W6R1) and after 20 mins felt a nasty cramp which meant I had to limp home. It feels marginally better today but I think I have torn the calf muscle a little. It still aches but a cold compress really helps it. I am worried that it is going to take ages to repair but I guess I shall have to be patient as I don't want it happening again. Hope yours feels better soon x
