Visit the S and F site.. lots of useful exercise there for calves!

If your friend has the correct shoe and socks,,, is she landing lightly ? I call it kissing the ground with your feet... sounds silly but it works.. Where is she on the plan?

We do have a tendency to thump down a little when we begin... :)

That “kissing the ground with your feet” worked magic for me - and I still have to remind myself of it sometimes 😊

Is she doing the pre run and post run stretching? If not, I would suggest doing them as they really help - links are in the How To post.

All in the above posts should be done and is she doing the 5 minute brisk warm up walk and drinking 2-3 litres of water per day 😊

Is she wearing proper running shoes? May need a gait analysis.

Is she following the advice in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... on minimising impact, stretching after every run while muscles are still warm and hydrating adequately?

Water, stretching, but mainly slow down! That fixed it for me (suffered quite a lot with calf pain in the first few weeks)

It could be shoes and need a gait analysis and all of the above things already mentioned, but slowing down is easy to try and free, so worth a go first! If you listen to music then put slower music on and see if that helps. Hope she's still going and things are working out better! 😁

Thank you to everyone for your help and advice and I have passed this on to my friend. The calf pain is improving and now not there all the time she is running.
