It is a very complicated thing - but basically at this stage you should only be running at only a tiny bit faster than your maximum walking pace.

I’m a plodder already....... and feel I walk faster than I run!! So I’m wondering if it’s because I was maybe still am unfit.....

We all have our physical limits - but running/jogging is a strenuous cardio activity that does requite a level of physical fitness -- but there is only one way to get that!! :) It will take time but you will get there with determination.

As long as it is still beating... and you can breathe.. then just relax... slow and steady :)

At my age and lack of fitness I have been watching my heart rate like a hawk, having started all this four weeks ago.

The guidance seems to be that you should aim to not go above 85% of your max heart rate. You calculate your max heart rate by 220 - your age. So for me, aged 60, my max HR is 160 and I try to not go above 85% of that, which is 136.

And like Bazza said, your running pace shouldn’t be much more than your max walking pace - for me that’s about 3.7mph vs 3.5mph.

That is - until you attain some physical fitness. After that you can run much faster than you walk :)

Way to go leelee70

According to the formula my HR should not exceed 123.🤔

Look after yourself and enjoy.

My resting heart rate has come down from 68 to 60 in these last few weeks. I am 48. Can't believe the difference after only 5 weeks on this programme 😃
