Hi. I joined today and did my first run of week one but on a treadmill as weather awful. I assume that still counts?

Hello and welcome. I’ve done all my running on the treadmill as it’s less painful on my knees and so far I’ve made it to Week 4. I certainly don’t think it matters where we run so long as we enjoy it. Good luck and happy running 🏃🏻‍♀️ 😀

Yep, racetrack, road, treadmill or calf deep in puddles and bogs. All counts.

The treadmill can get a teeny bit complicated because of the whole pace thing (even easier to try to go faster than you can sustain), and you don't get the Vitamin D (or the weird exhilaration that comes from running in the rain) but there's no doubt that treadmills have been a blessing to many lately!

If you set the incline at one degree it simulates outside conditions and eases the transition should you wish in the future.

Set the belt speed at a slow and steady pace that you can keep your footfall under you hips and do not overstride. This will let you maintain the extra oxygen you need also comfortably.

Be careful not to go too fast on the treadmill.Normally in a gym m/cs are km/hr and do not be influenced by someone else’s pace. You need to do what you are comfortable with.🤔

5-6 km/hr maybe considered a brisk walking pace.🤔

All the very best and enjoy.🌟👏👏

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I’ve found 5.7 for walking and 7km/h for running seems about right so far

That sounds good.👍👏👏

Slow and steady is the solution to everything to build your legs and your lungs and your running brain.🌟👏👏

I will watch with interest.👍

Enjoy.🌟👏👏🏃‍♀️

So far I've been doing all my runs on a treadmill, I've not worked up the courage to run outside quite yet but I am seriously considering it now I've managed to run 20+ mins non-stop... I'm perhaps a little too afraid of appearing rubbish to other runners ;-)

My mistake the first week of C25K was to think that I needed to run at 10 km/h - to get to 5K in 30 mins that's what you'd need right? But I soon realised that was too much and dialled it back to a more maintainable rate.... currently I'm doing 8.5 km/h with 6 km/h for my walking. But the important thing is you find the right pace for you, it's more about being able to run for the times you're being asked to run, not how fast you're doing it.

Hi that sounds like a great pace. At 5’2” I’ve got little legs and am currently only doing 5.7km/h walk and 7km/h for my run.

It’s all good, as I’ve learned it’s all about the right pace for you, which is even more important to get right on a treadmill where it’s easy to set it up a bit too optimistically! And yes, I suspect having longer legs at 5’11 helps 😀
