How long after giving blood should you wait to run? Gave blood last night and tried a run this morning but very quickly went dizzy and nauseous so stopped. Anyone gave any advice on timescales between donating a d running? Thanks in advance!!

There have been posts on this previously Becky. I think the consensus was its best to give it a couple of days for the body to replenish etc.

This is from an American Red Cross site "The plasma from your donation is replaced within about 24 hours. Red cells need about four to six weeks for complete replacement. That's why at least eight weeks are required between whole blood donations."

As Millsie-J says, most people wait a couple of days.

Hi Becky, I have worked for nhsbt (blood donors) for twenty years on session (as well as being a donor for 25 years). My/ nhsbt ‘s advice is to give it at least 24 hours before any exercise. Really load up on fluids after donating anyway, and be very aware of how you’re feeling during the exercise.

Well done on your achievements in the program, and VERY well done for making the decision to save up to three peoples lives last night. Thankyou.
