On week eight. Just can’t seem to run like I did two weeks ago. Can’t even run ten mins. Thinking about starting again what’s everyone’s thoughts?

I wouldn't go right back to the start... but if your confidence is low why not go back to w6 r1 and try from there?

Its only been two weeks. It feels like it might be more a mental block maybe?

Not sure. Didn’t run for a week as was chesty with cold and busy with kids. Back out Saturday past and struggled. Put it down to the cold cold weather haha. Today wasn’t much better run wise but weather was quite good. Need to keep going just don’t know where from??

What stops you at ten minutes?

I had this a couple of times after graduation. A couple of runs I got to near then end and just stopped. I walked home and realised that I could have gone on as there was nothing: fatigue, injury, etc stopping me. I was disappointed with myself, but at the same time releived as I knew it was something, unlike and injury that I could sort out the very next time I ran. I just had to get mymindset right.

I suspect many subsequent posters will implore you to slow-down. This is good general advice, but not always the solution.

First you need to think about why you stopped. Could you have gone on? If you stop and walk for a couple of minutes can you resume from there, or once you stop running is that it?

As GoGo_JoJo says if you do decide to go back, which I would never advise, a couple of week would be better than right back to the beginning.

So do you think I should just keep pounding til I get the run done like keep trying?

I have not been well. Quite chesty. And didn’t run for a week because of that and the kids being busy etc I literally could not get out to run last week. I was sore today after ten mins. I want to do it I feel strange about it. Not helping I know sorry.

Ah, your first post didn't mention you hadn't been well. You shouldn't resume till you are feeling 100%. It frustrating but if you are going to take up running regularly then you will have to put up with breaks like this from time to time.

When you feel better, my advice would be to just go out there do your 5 minute warm up and just go running. Take a run out of the programme and just go by feel. Ignore the time. If you want to stop, do it. Only afterwards look at your time and adjust to your next run on the programme relative to the time you ran.

If you did say 10 mins, go to week 6. If you did 25, then move back to week 8 for your next run.

Ok thanks. I have not been really unwell just a bit chesty and headache that kind of thing. This makes sense I will try that. Thanks again.

Never give up on a run though! You can always save it. Unless you’re injured of course

You can stop to catch your breath, in which case you’re over-cooking things.

Slow down, or stop if if you have to. Run on once you have your breath back

It takes a while to fully warm up, and it could be that the session is over and you’re still not warmed up properly. The distances for the programme are only very short so it’s quite possible. You could warm up indoors first before heading out for the warm up walk.

I was blowing out my ass only yards into my last run. I have no idea why but I just kept going. I was fine.

Slow, slow, slower 😃💪👍🏃‍♀️ Lighten up, relax and have fun 🙂. Then you’ll nail these sessions

Thanks. Maybe I was going a bit fast. Sorer now than I have been after any run?? Maybe I am still a tad run down from the cold I had. Thanks again 😀

If you stop. So what. That’s you listening to your body. Now that you know that you can possibly last longer than 10 minutes, next time, try to. I take my headphones off after some time because I feel like my body goes with the music way too much and once I hear a song I don’t like as much as the one played before, my mind just tells me to stop. But I find a good song and start again. It’s only bad to stop if you’re running a race or doing an can of some sort. Another tip, treat it like a race if you have to.

Ok yes. Sometimes the music helps and sometimes it’s annoying. Worth trying thanks very much.

If you have had a chest infection it’s no wonder you had to stop.Have you managed to see your GP and had a weeks course of abx.🤔

Sorry to ask , but concerned.

The running is not a disaster and no you should not go back.🤔

You have got all that 21 weeks in the bank and you do not lose it that quickly.👏👏

The weather has been awful and the cold oxygen slows you down even more.🤔

The continuous runs are probably easier now that you have done 6.3, 7.1 , 7.2 &7.3

Of course you can pick 6.1 or 6.2 , but I have heard Mentor Iannoda Truffe Just Give a heads up to others after 5.3 20 mins and then a surprise of 6.1 , 6.2

Get yourself feeling good and go do wk 5.3 , 20 mins, not on a cold day, slow and steady ,see how you go and then one week7 Run a 25 min and resume week 8 28 mins.🤔🌟👏👏

That would be my suggestion.

Be kind to you, no drama you have got this.👍

You have done the work and you have been poorly and maybe a little below par.🤔

Everything is Ok you do not become a non runner in one outing or even with a two week repair period.🤔🌟👏👏💫

Heal properly... make sure you are feeling back to full strength...running under par is never a plan... :)

When you feel better, head out, just to see how you feel then make a decision to maybe go back a run or to carry on :).

Yes I thought I was better today but still a bit chesty especially after that wee run ha. Thanks again.

I think the key thing here is how many times you've said "chesty" in your replies. If the unwell is "below the neck", rest up ("above neck" i.e. congested/head cold, then you can chance it). Really useful rule I learnt from here! :)

You've only been off for a week, you can easily take 2 weeks off at this point and still come back as strong. In fact you'll probably come back stronger from having the proper break than dragging yourself through it too soon.

I absolutely would not go right back to the beginning! :O Echo Oldfloss get back to full strength and then just re-start with W8R1. When you do go out, don't be putting pressure on yourself comparing with how it was before - go out with a "If I make it through, that's a win" and then you'll probably do better than if you're really going for it. If that makes sense?!?

Makes so much sense. I was a wee bit chesty but it’s mostly cleared. I am still and still not where I was but took some pressure off and will keep going til I. Can do w8r1 😀
