Why didn’t I enjoy this?

Week 6 run 1. Bleuuuugggh🤑. I didn’t enjoy it. First time during this course. I’m carrying on though. I think it was how it was split up. I’d run for 20 mins last run. Why did I find it difficult to run it with gaps in between? 😮

I hated week 6 run 1....I had to stop and walk for the last minute of the 8... and felt crap afterwards and dreaded the next one! Honestly it does get better, and you went out and did it! x

do a search on W6 R1 on here. You will find that 99% of C25kers experience the same thing.

Why?

Well, it's 24 minutes rather than 20 for starters, and I surmise that after the adrenaline high of the continuous 20 minutes, everyone assumes intervals will somehow be easier and is surprised when they are not.

Yes I think the mind is very powerful. I did I dread week 1, then find it ok. Then go out on run 2 thinking it will be fine again, only to struggle much more 😂

Is my maths wrong? 5+8+5=18?

Rignold profile image

No, that is correct. You're missing some numbers though:

5+3+8+3+5=24

Ye can’t just put numbers in like that!!! 😂. They were brisk walks not jogs Rignold. X

I can actually. The science of walk/run interval training is about the walks and the runs, not just the running sections.

Well in THAT case you have just made me very proud of myself again. 😘🏃🏼‍♀️🥂

The difference in energy expenditure between a gentle jog and a brisk walk is minimal, so why do people think they can walk with no effort?

Because.. the programme and the runs are about a lot more than just running...discipline in our running and the way we run.. as Rig says.. the surprise element floors folk... not sure why.

Just follow the plan, take it steadily and every single run makes sense... :)

Strange how it happens though eh?? I remember conquering week 5 & thinking week 6 would be a breeze!! Nothing can be as hard as wk5r3??? How wrong was I??!!!! But....we have to push ourselves & we are constantly surprised...keep on moving forward...you’re doing so well..don’t overthink any run, shoulders back, chin up &face it head on...you haven’t got long to go & you will feel amazing when you’re up on that podium x

I found the stop/start of week 6 run 1 surprisingly difficult too. Don’t worry. It WILL get easier. By week 7 you’ll be back to continuous runs and building on everything your body has learnt in the program. So be confident and keep going.

It's a tricky one but it's done with now and time to move onwards to the longer runs. Trust yourself and the programme. You've got this 👍💪😁
