Don’t look ahead and worry. The whole point of the program is it builds on what you have just done. Keep going and keep it slow and steady. (Remember, really, really slooooow!)
Hi. I felt just like you....and am now about to start week 5. A very wise teacher once asked me this “how do you eat an elephant”? Obviously, I wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing! But to carry the analogy through, the answer is “one bite at a time”. And that’s how I’ve got this far. I couldn’t have dreamt of being here 5 weeks ago, and yet here I am. So, as everyone here will tell you, slow and steady. The feeling at the end of each run is worth the difficulty of putting one foot in front of the other, even when it’s really hard. Good luck. You WILL be able to do it 🐘
Thank you - im not going to quit as taken me huge motivational mentality to get every ‘plate’ achieved butvues slowly but surely I’m getting bit happier with what I’ve done. Well done you.
Thank you and good luck to you too. Funny what can motivate for me was slip up posting my Bellabeat results to fb by mistake. But then everyone knowing (as dire that I thought my secret is out) resulted in one post in capitals saying
NEVER EVER QUIT
I just see this in the tarmac ! 🙃
One run at a time. Week one run one was like scaling Everest to me, and now I've managed 6k (which is not as impressive as others, but good for me at my great age). Look to the end of a week if you must, but don't look further. the number of times I've thought I will never manage the scary run three runs ahead, but when it comes round, my body and mind have been ready.
Don’t think about the other weeks just concentrate on the day that you are doing, honestly it gets easier, I’ve never run or exercised in my life and was dreading the weeks, but honestly it’s fine, go at your own pace and you will do it x
If you read further most of those posts end with people saying it turned out to be fine.
Every week is a challenge but absolutely manageable. You will be ready for week 3 after week 2, ready for 4 after 3 and so on. I scared the bejesus out of myself by looking ahead and it was completely unnecessary. Save your energy for the running 🏃🏾♀️
Hi P0tter, welcome and well done, you have made a great start. 😀 Don't even think about what is ahead! Just take one run at a time slowly and gently.
I am new to running at the age of 58 and genuinely believed that I would just do W1 all winter, having had negative running experiences in younger life. I reached the end of W1 and thought "I might as well try W2" - this kept happening at the end of each week until I had worked my way through to the end of the program. Nobody is more astonished than I am - and delighted! So you can trust the program to work- even when you aren't expecting that! It will work for you too.
This forum is also full of elated "Yay I did it" posts, not just the worried ones. Maybe concentrate on those for now! It is such a good source of friendly encouragement and information.
Let us know how you get on so we can cheer for you. 😃
I’m a little bit; well alot pleased cos I’ve managed to hit a zone? This feels wierd to say but when sarah M has said in her cute Geordie ‘go’ I’ve thought you know what I’ll just keep going to Next lamp post and Next corner then Next landmark etc and it was easier to just keep doing my mental looking lite jog ! ! !
I ended up ‘jogging’ For 25 mins on my last week of week 3!!!! I run on flat country lanes. I’m elated and obviously have a 16 stone body built for endurance (not speed)! This is an absolute first for me x thank you to you and all who are so kind x
Your feelings are very normal. All I have to say is that each run you have done prepares your body (not necessarily your mind) for the next one. If that sounds a bit simple, it's because it is! It's how any programme like this works. So... for example, maybe you're worried about Week 3 Run 1 - you shouldn't because all your Week 1 and Week 2 runs have prepared you for it.
But like I said - your body is prepared, not necessarily your mind - but each run that you complete should help you build the mental strength to give you confidence to complete the 'next run'.
Pick a graduate, any graduate, then look back at some of their earlier posts. They had the same fears and anxieties as you do now. And they did it, as will you
POtter I love the description shuffle jog , I used to say i plod , because of my hips I'm not fast more of a slow jog (fast walkers could keep up lol) but at least we're getting off the couch
