My hamstring is now my friend, and it is like the injury never happened hoorah!
Just ran W6R2 (again) and it was fine. Two lots of 10 min runs with a 3 min walk in between. Breathing was a little more laboured than usual, but I think I was going a little too fast. A particularly upbeat Lady Gaga song pitched up on my playlist just at the point I was thinking “geez Louise this is fricking hard!”) and it gave me the strength to go on. Yaaaas Gaga!
There was a refreshing light drizzle throughout my run which made me feel like a superhero. I truly love starting the weekend with a run.
Monday = 25 mins continuous running. Yup, I am going to find that hard but I am going to totally do it. Slowly.
Happy running, chums. xxx

Ooh that's wonderful, Sadie-runs ! I think your approach of taking a run out of each week has been a great idea for getting back into it, and it seems that your hamstring is thanking you for your discipline. You're well and truly back!
Monday's 25 minute run will be fine! As you rightly say, you will manage it, and will likely feel great for it.
Drizzly runs are nice. This morning it was bucketing it down here but if it's dry enough later (or just at that acceptable level of rain, refreshing rather than monsoon) I think I will try a brief foray to see how the knee holds up. It's really fine now and has been for a couple of days, but I'm playing it safe as there are still occasional clicks. I honestly can't remember if they were always like that or not! It's feeling pretty strong though, so I think that if I go steady on it, it should be fine.
Thank you dear Helene! Running has become so precious to me now, I have to be disciplined. I have learned so much from the good people on this forum - mostly to do with resting up and gradual returns after injuries. Peer support is the best.
SO glad to hear that you have rested and your knee feels better. Do make it a shorter, gentler run than usual - it may even do it some good. I know you are sensible enough to stop if you get any pain though. I will be thinking of you, so do report back! Take it easy.
Thank you, and I will report back! My problem previously has been that the pain doesn't really come while I'm running, but rather a while afterwards. I know it's normal to have aches and twinges after a run but they are also supposed to go away quickly, whereas this time it was different.
My other plan is to join the little local gym I used to go to *ahem* about 13 years ago, in the hope of bolstering my cross training. If it's still pouring later I can perhaps go there instead - I know that on the treadmill I'm unlikely to do more than a couple of km, then maybe add a bit of time on other machines to strengthen a little, or at least that's the theory ... I don't really like the gym
Then I think a little strengthening of the muscles around the knee might help? Go to the gym I say! Some warm up on the treadmill and then some strengthening would be great. I found that doing targeted strengthening during my stint on the IC really kept my morale up, and the thought that it would help prevent injury on my return to running made me feel like I wasn’t totally wasting time. xxx
Well done Sadie, fantastic. Youre back with a vengeance. Really enjoy your posts. Keep on running xxx
I wouldnt worry, I bore them rigid every other day with my runs, and a few whinges and general statements in between 😂 they probably groan when they see my name xxx
Thank you It is going well, with ups & downs as live serves some common cold and/or stomach bug. So this week it will stay with 2 runs (Mon & Wed), no 3rd run. But week 3 is all finished. Week 4 ready to start
Yeayyyyyy, sounds like you are back Sadie, great to hear!
It might be worth looking at daily stretching exercises for your hamstrings. I asked my physio for a couple which I now do most days, and they are helping a lot.
You will be fine with Monday’s run......you are a Runner Sadie x
Thank you so much, Millsie! 😘 What are the stretches that you were recommended? I thought I was stretching them well, but hmmm maybe not as well as I could! I know they are not that tight though, from years of yoga I can do a forward bend with my hands flat on the floor!
Hi Sadie, well done you! So pleased your hamstring is being well behaved and suitably athletic along with the rest of you! You must be enjoying yourself!😄
I have had to take another week out because after last weekend's tentative W2 revisit, my flu symptoms returned with aggressive roars and it was back to "survive at work by Lemsip power". However, another week of patience ( sort of) behind me and I think I might finally be recovering & yesterday's run/ walk seems to have gone ok.
I'm raising a glass to happy, health, glitch free running for both of us! 😄
Oh Elfe! Drat that blasted virus! I really hope you are back to full Elfy strength soon. Take it easy my love. (But glad you had a successful run/walk yesterday). It’s going to be a super cold week next week - good luck to all of us! I am longing for spring / summer now, longing I tell thee!
