Knee trouble

I got to W3R1 and was absolutely loving it but my right knee started to hurt the following day. I’ve waited a week now for it to get better but it hasn’t and the other knee is hurting too. I miss running so much but feel I must listen to my body - I suspect arthritis. I’ve ordered turmeric so fingers crossed that works but any advice would be appreciated.

Ouch... tricky things these knees.. and we do have to listen to them... :)

Try to land lightly..there can be a bit of a tendency to thump down in the first weeks. Try to land gently, kissing the ground with your feet is what I call it.. also, try these exercises out too :)

Those exercises sorted my knees out when I was doing C25K! I just needed to strengthen the muscles around the knees, as clearly they were very weak before I started running...Don’t be scared to rest up a bit before you next run.

Thanks Sadie, that’s encouraging! Which excercises do you mean? Thanks again.

Ah, brilliant! Thanks both! Not used to this and hadn’t seen the link! Many thanks, I feel a bit perkier and more hopeful now!

Oh good! Don’t do the exercises if your knees are very painful - wait until they feel a bit better. And patience is key - I had lots of aches and pains when I first started running, just the body getting used to new exercise. You got good shoes to run in? x

Thanks, I definitely will be investing in better shoes - if only this pain goes. I’m excited to find I enjoy running and just hope I can get out again soon. These excercises look really helpful. It’d be great if this is just weak knees not crumbly ones! Thanks very much for the advice.

You are very welcome. The wrong shoes can cause knee pain, and even injury, so go treat yourself to a gait analysis and some good supportive runners! Well worth it in the long run if you are enjoying the running. 😘
