Over the last week I have enjoyed a slightly different side to my running with time being tight in the mornings I indulged in a couple of shorter runs.
Taking in the same hill that formed part of my 5K run last weekend, I was keen to see how I could do on a shorter run. Well the answer was kind of so-so but it didn’t matter – Rome wasn’t built in a day. The high wind did not help but rather than see that as a reason not to run I chose to accept the challenge set before me.
I have begun to doubt the accuracy of the BBC weather app for use in my area but decided once again to seek out the Oracle to determine which of the 2 weekend days would be best for a run. Suitably consulted the day was chosen and so I set off this morning, getting up much earlier than I used to on a Saturday morning to avoid the predicted rainfall later on!
Off I set on the same run as last weekend’s 5K to try the ups and downs of my own personal mini Everest and then down past the golf club towards the pond. I very nearly did a lap but wanting to try and better last week’s time I chose not to.
I was conscious that last weekend I set off quite slowly not wanting to burn myself out but this week tried to pick up the pace a bit at the start. What surprised me was that in the final 1K where I am usually flagging I actually managed a couple of sprints and bettered last weeks time by over a minute. Perhaps I am getting better at this!
Anyway I finished my run and stopped at the same bench as last week. No sitting down though, for once the Oracle was right and the rain clouds gathered and started to release their payload.
Am I actually starting to enjoy this running game ... I hope you are ... Happy Running everyone.
