Woke up this morning aching and tired. Supposed to be doing week 2 run 1 today. Was so enthusiastic that I even bought some new trainers yesterday. All that enthusiasm has disappeared over night and I’m really asking myself why I’m doing this and how long it will be till I inevitably give up.

Tip that gremlin off your shoulder. Get your trainers on and out you go.

Enjoy, you are on a terrific journey 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻😃

You are already defeating yourself.... positivity is what is needed here... I tend to agree with Millsie-J ... Just go.

But... ask yourself.. why did you begin this journey? Your first post... " but I really want to get fitter and lose a bit of weight"

Has that changed... ?

This time of year can be weird.. dire weather, dark days, deep thoughts, and all sorts going on... but, you can turn it around.. a New Year.. a New Beginning, a New You!!

You know I love my quotes.. here is one for you.. with a twist..

" One day, you may not be able to run... don't let today be that day ".

Go on.. do it :)

One day or day one..... you decide.

This little quote has been a great help to me when facing just what you’re facing today. It’s really tough sometimes to get out and run, but I bet you find those days will be your best runs!

Keep your aims in mind and bite the bullet! The buzz of achievement you feel when you walk back through your door will be worth it!

Put your new shoes on and go girl 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️👏🏻👍

Don’t give up you will always have thoughts of the easy option (giving up) just grab onto the feeling you have once you had completed any of the three runs you have already done. I am also doing wk2r1 today. (We can do it) you must want to as you have bought new trainers. I won’t to see a happy status on here later when you have been and done it. 😁

I ached a hell of a lot weeks 1-3 but it really eases off after that! Your muscles need to strengthen, and that just takes time. Energy levels will improve too. You can always take an extra rest day if needs be? And a hot bath with Epsom salts after a run is very soothing.

Why are you doing this? To be healthy and to feel fitter, right? You have to put some effort into getting fit, no denying it, but it is worth it, trust me. Come on, give it your best shot!

I would trial "don't think, just go" for a few weeks, then review the situation. 😀

If you don't want to do it, that is your decision, but the fact that you bothered writing here sounds as if you would like to be persuaded.

Learning to to run will give you very obvious health benefits such as improved circulation and respiration, better balance and muscle and bone strength and a huge boost to mental well-being and confidence. 95% of respondents to a poll on this forum claimed mental health benefits, something many never expected.

You also, by being active, statistically reduce your risk of a whole raft of life limiting conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease. I had it brought home to me, in the middle of last year, just how much running had given me, when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I was told that, at the age of 61, I would be able to be offered the full range of appropriate treatments because, my heart and circulation were good, I was not overweight and I was not being treated for any other conditions. That is basically down to having run for the previous four years, making me fitter than at any time in my life.

Now, towards the end of my radiotherapy, I am still running three times a week. The treatments, which knock some people for six, have had very few adverse effects on me. My oncologist and GP both agree that this is probably due to my good level of fitness.

After my first few weeks of C25K I was so grateful for the mental high that I was on. Now I am even more grateful for the generally good physical health it has helped me get through a critical illness.

Think beyond whether you feel like it at the moment, get out there and you will feel better afterwards and you will be laying the base for better health outcomes in the years ahead. Read a few graduation posts on this forum, from people who have transformed their lives by pushing past the lethargy and doing something positive for themselves.

It is up to you.

Thanks for your advice. I have been out and done the run. It was hard but I’m glad I went and will take all your advice and thoughts on board.
