Hi everyone! I am getting into the way of doing my runs in the morning and am trying to see what works best for me eg run before food or have a small thing beforehand. I’ve found if I don’t drink I get a terrible stitch but I dunno if I should have a wee bite too?
What have you found works best for you? I’m currently managing on a coffee/some water and sometimes half a banana (if I’m famished when I get up!) 😊

I find I need to have something to eat before I run or my run is crap. For 2 out of 3 of my runs, I have to get my kiddo ready for school before I can head out so I have time anyways. I tend to have a cup of coffee (or 2) and either instant oatmeal or toast with peanut butter. I try and to wait about an hour after eating before running if possible and will usually drink a glass of water before heading out. Be careful not too eat anything to large or heavy though.
Usually for morning runs I will grab a yogurt before a run. We found whole milk yogurts which feel a bit more substantial. And coffee. Always coffee first thing ☕️
I have eggs and a bagel when I get back home usually. Sometimes with a slice of ham too 🙂
I run at 5am before work. Just a small glass of water for me, then granary toast and diluted orange juice when I get back. With a lovely coffee obviously.
I run early.. so, my routine has always been a cup of tea and two digestive light biscuits about 45 mins or so before I run.. always too, a gulp of water before I leave the house!
I always run first thing, but for me it's just the black coffee that is graciously bought to me in bed, and then after the run (a good 2 1/2 hours after when I originally dragged myself out of bed, when I am showered and ready and get to my office), it's a banana and almond butter.
But! I never ate breakfast at all before, I am only forcing myself to eat something at some point in the morning now because I figure my body will need it at the very least after I have run. Personally, I couldn't run right after I had eaten anything without feeling quite sick, but if your body is used to having brekky, listen to your body, and I guess eat something protein-ey?
I prefer to run in the early morning if it possible, so in that case I just have a glass of water and dash off - not keen on running after eating.
Then afterwards I come back to a lovely coffee and I eat basically everything in the house that isn't nailed to the ground (ideally I should exercise a little more self-control, I know...).
Could be any combination of porridge, toast with marmalade, crusty bread with tomatoes and parmesan, avocado, ham, fruit, or a sort of grotty muesli that I know isn't really all that healthy but tastes good... you get the picture. Or if I've been baking, whatever is left over by the plague of locusts that are my kids and husband. And a whopping great cappuccino.
There is something particularly nice about showering and feasting after a good run.
