Running and reading and running and...

I’ve decided to combine my two favourite things (well, if you exclude gin and the giant hairy dog) and start reading about running.

Does anyone have any recommendations for must-read books about running? I don’t mind what kind of books they are as long as they’re interesting and well written...

There are quite a few I've read:

Things I talk about when I talk about running... by Haruki Murakami.

Running like a Girl....Alexandra Heminsley

No run intended... followed by

Run intended ..... Hannah Phillips

Fit to Run....... Phillip Pearson

Some are technical some are humourous, i enjoyed them all.

Thank you - I’ve ordered Run Like a Girl from the library. Looking forward to it! I’ll have to see if they’ve got any more from your list...

I've just downloaded a book on recommendation from my Chiro / CST who is a very seasoned triathlete (in fact she was the one who got me on the C25K). It's called Running with the Mind of Meditation - by Sakyong Mipham. She's pretty taken by it. I'm planning to get stuck into it this weekend, so I'll update you on progress 😊

A few that stands out are:

Chrissie Wellington: A life without limits

James Adams: Running (and stuff)

Richard Askwith: Today we die a little

Angry Jogger: Angry Jogger

Lizzie Hawker: Runner

On the more practical advice-focused level

Matt Fitzgerald: 80/20 running

Pete Pfitzinger: Faster Road Racing

Jack Daniels: Daniels' Running Formula

Jeff Galloway: Marathon - you can do it

And purely for the awesome title (also full of great advice)

Jason Robillard: Never wipe your ass with a squirrel

Oh that last one made me chuckle - but I might not ask for that at my local library. I’m not sure my elderly librarian could cope!

I’ve ordered the Christie Wellington one already. Lots of these sound really good. Some of those titles sound a bit intimidating though...especially the ones with ‘marathon’ in them...although I have a feeling that it’s only a matter of time...(well, time and distance!)

Christie is hard core kick ass

The No Run intended is very short but hilarious and is good for those just about to don Lycra

Some of the Run books are so dull though, just stat filled. It’s like reading knitting patterns

I liked Scott jurek eat and run, and one about when he ran with the Tahamura in Mexico.

The running like a girl is good

Excellent - thank you! I’m probably after the inspiring ones and the funny ones rather than the statistical stuff; I’m my attempts to use my Garmin are anything to go by, I won’t understand a word of it!
