Reading lots of post others seem to be going to the gym and other stuff like that to supplement their running 😫are most of you doing that as feel ATM this would be enough for me hate gym work😝 advice please feeling abit worried now.
Mmmm should l be doing more!!!: Reading lots of... - Couch to 5K
Mmmm should l be doing more!!!
I don't!
One of the reasons I took up the C25k is because it only took 40 mins of my day up. I hate gyms with a passion and have no desire to join one.
Running is enough for me at the moment, I do plenty of walking around the rest of the time.
Let's face it, the smallest bit of exercise is better than none.
Save your money...plenty of exercise to do without spending a penny! Your rest days are the time for stretching exercise, core strength and stamina work
Try these;

But.. walking, or cycling or swimming or yoga or Pilates all help to build up your body and legs.. and a day in the garden or a blitz on house work are all useful!!
My rest days are often busier than run days!
No need for worry.. just get out for a long walk.. and try some of those exercises... You can make your own little regime up.. I have one I use every day..
Me too. Fitting three runs into a week is hard enough and my reason for choosing running despite the fact I hated it (note past tense) was that I can do it straight from home. No need to travel to the pool to swim.
I guess it depends on your aim. For general fitness running and walking is enough I think. If you want to run 5k in under 20 minutes, or a marathon, you will need to do a lot more.
I am with the other responders and have never darkened the doors of a gym and do not intend to.
I sporadically do a workout on rest days involving plank, push ups and squats primarily aimed core strength but also stretching to aid flexibility.
My work is pretty physical and I am aware that when/if I retire then I will need to reproduce this to maintain muscle strength.
Core strength in particular, is useful for runners.
To be honest, I don't any other exercise on rest days at the minute, I'm enjoying the running too much and really don't want to divide my attention between that and other exercise.
I will be starting up some form of martial arts training again before too long, the running is building my fitness and stamina ready for this, so I'm happy to just run for now.
Many thanks lm active anyway Dog walking fanatic house cleaner etc so ATM that should be enough me thinks and work ft. Thanks for your replies great forum so glad l joined.
Yes, you could walk to the ATM💸if practical, that's also good supplemental excercise on the running rest days!😁
No, you don't have to go to a gym, I don't either, you could Cross-Train at home, I use a static cycle at home or use a road bike, go for a swim, there's loads of sport/excercise disciplines other than a gym, in time you'll discover what you like to supplement running, but I'd suspect just getting into running is enough for now..😊
I keep meaning to turn the Wii Fit on - I always used to like the boxing workout on it, but then I run out of time!
I use Jillian Michaels dvds at home but for c25k you don't really need much else. Try and walk more! oh and I have a bike, it's all grist to the mill 💪👍
Nope, I do my stretches after and Rignold s famous squats. I do walk whenever I can...
It all depends on what your goals are. If your goal is to be able to run a few times a week and have reasonable cardiovascular health then its enough. If you want to be more flexible and mobile then it isn't going to help with that, you need to do some yoga or similar. If you want to participate in sports then you need to do more sports specific stuff.
Personally I fervently believe that everyone should do some form of resistance work, some flexibility work and some cardio in order to be healthy. Its how our bodies were intended to function. But none of it is mandatory (at least until i sweep to power).
Try the strength and flexibility podcast also available from the NHS choices site. I have just started and I either do it on the non-running days or afterwards if I am feeling energetic enough and have time. Its perfectly doable and doesn't cost anything.
