Does anyone else feel they have to yawn when running. I graduated in July, and have kept up running three times each week taking just over 30 minutes. About half way through the run while breathing hard, I often start to yawn. While I think this is because I am not getting enough oxygen to my hard working muscles, has anyone got any tips to improve breathing or is it just time and things will improve. For those of a certain age......I think I need oxygum!😀

Yawning after a run, I will admit to, but never while running.
You say you are breathing hard but are you breathing deeply. It is quite common for runners to take lots of fast shallow breaths, which is not efficient. The patterns described in the podcasts are good, but at that stage of the process I was incapable of following the advice, being a mere male with limited multitasking abilities.
Four years later, I still don't think about my breathing but it actually conforms pretty much to those recommendations with one addition. If pushing hard, on about every fourth exhalation, I blow out as much sir as possible. I have no idea whether this will solve your problem but is worth trying.
Thank you. I am not at the point where I feel running is easy or comfortable really, but manage about 2-3k and then have to slow down and take some deep breaths till I recover a bit. Yesterday was very warm when I was running but it happens at other times. I will have read of the article and try your method of breathing. 😊
