Back pain

After some advice. I got up to week 8. I did Ride London 100 mile cycle ride, felt good but the following day had severe back pain. I ended up going to the doctors and got put on strong pain killers. Now three weeks later I haven't been on the bike or been running, should I got several weeks on the program or just try week 8? Advice welcomed 😺

It might take quite a few more weeks to get your back right so don't over do anything

You could try and pick up where you left off but it won't hurt to go back a week or so if you find week 8 too much

Just go steady 🙂

I'm trying to think of any part of my body that hasn't got injured so far... Hair and eye lashes probably :) Anyhow, I'm tall and slim, in the past my posture was bad an often my back would suffer after certain exercises. What works for me, given that my back was the core issue that affected first my hips, then knees and ankles, is a simple visit to my osteopath. Again, what is good for me may not be for you, but I know that any back issues should be treated with caution and patience. Good luck & keep us posted :)

Running and cycling both require good core strength, so any work you can do on that is hugely beneficial. As someone who has suffered back trouble, I would say err on the side of caution. My last injury was to my back, in a non running related incident. I had been running regularly for three years prior to this, and despite my impatience to get back quickly, I forced myself to take a very slow and steady recovery route. I started with a 15 minute run, then added five minutes per run until I had my home 5k route taped. I stayed at that for several weeks, before building one long run back up to 14k, using the 10% rule.

I know that if my back is out, then so is running, so coming back slowly is the only way.

As well as core work, make sure you have as much flexibility in your back as possible, plenty of twisting stretches helped me. Avoid riding 100 miles on a bike...........
