Mr JCR, up and out first has a dicky tummy, Mrs JCR 30 minutes later likewise. Today Mr JCR cycles up the Chipo, which is a big thing in our Region. It's where a famous local rider used to train for the Giro d'Italia. This is a milestone ride for him and today is my first official 30 minute run. We could both do without popping Imodium first thing...
After 30 minutes of grumbling (my stomach) I set off, having decided that today I would walk all the way down the slope of hope as that probably gives me the extra distance to do the 30 minutes, without messing up my rhythm. Past one dog walker, I don't know him, I say buongiorno he grunts. Down past the turning for the hill that kills, and then a quick 90 degree turn and back up again. Quick pat of the tum , everything appears to be in order, phew.
Got my tech knickers in a knot this morning I thought I'd set MMR on a 5 minute delay so it monitored only the run bit, but I got that wrong and I had the weird mechanical voice woman talking to me. Luckily she never interrupted Mr Smooth. Up the hill that kills, passed the first of the two wooden statues on the yet to be completed olive wood statue trail. The first time I saw it I thought it was a giraffe, now I am thinking goose, emu, or perhaps a swan. Got to the top of the hill, safe and sound and then the little slope towards Lovers Lane. Aaarrgghh, a Mexican standoff two cars and a runner all in the same place, something has to give as there's not enough room for all of us. As I am the softest and most easily injured, I give way, which means my run is interrupted. AAARRGGGHHHH. The car behind me is tooting, now I am getting miffed, but it's friends returning home - they know this is my critical week, so they just shouted 'Don't stop, keep on running', which was somewhat ironic as I'd only stopped because they were creeping up behind me.
Into Lovers Lane and Mr Smooth came back with a bang, 'I don't want to exhaust you' - oh Mr Smooth you can exhaust me all you want.... 10 minutes in. I see Anouska and Albino and I run past shouting - can't stop. At this point Locomotion is playing on my play list, how apt....
Around Bali, back down Lovers Lane, up to the hill that kills and Mr Smooth is telling me I've done 20 minutes now. Back up to Lover's Lane past the second olive wood statue - this is definitely of the abstract variety. Then I see a new person - an old guy who looks exactly like Lord Kitchener in the old WW1 posters, except he's wearing shorts. His moustache is absolutely glorious, no beard as he isn't a Hoxton hipster, but he looks quite jaunty all the same. Double buongiornos exchanged and I continue. Final run around Bali and back down Lovers Lane and it's done my first official 30 minute run (please forgive the Mexican stand off stop it was 5 seconds no more I promise). Shouting yes, yes , yes, and to my embarrassment, Anouska and Albino come into view once more on their second tour. They stop and i explain that today is the first 30 minutes without a stop and they are so sweet they congratulate me. Anouska says I look as though I've lost weight (I haven't but it's kind of her to say so) and they tell me 'Hai fatto un buon lavoro' You've done a good job, which is exactly how I feel.
Going for a run when you have the trots not exactly the best way to start the day, but then Mr JCR is doing 7km, 22 switchback bends and a gradient of 11%, wearing cyclist's nappy pants and he's riding the 80km to get there and back. So out of the two of us I got off likely. Colour salsa red, temperature is about 24 degrees so that helped a lot.
For the statistics, here we go...

Oh my goodness - where has the time gone - week 9 already!! You must feel fantastic to be on the home straight. Forget the stopping (we all have roads to cross and cars to wait for). Enjoy the feeling of achievement - looking forward to reading the next two posts towards graduation.
Thanks SC, it's a great feeling to be in touching distance. Now Sunday's run is after MR JCR's cycling club party, and I'm not sure that's great prep either...
Week 9 was my nemesis so well done! Since the Aquathlon last week I've been laid up with a virus. No running, no swimming, no spinning - hence no posting on here! Only two weeks to my bloody triathlon - could have done without this! Bit of a challenge walking up and down the stairs so swimming, cycling and running seems a bit unlikely right now
I thought you'd gone quiet, but assumed you might have been taking a well-earned rest after the Aquathlon. Shoot, are you off work or having to keep goin?, as I can see the tiredness will certainly impact on your abilities. Crap, crap crappety crap
Nah, spent Sunday, Monday, half of Tuesday and Wednesday in bed but back at work now - and, to be fair, feeling a lot better than I was. Had to come into work on Tuesday otherwise nobody would have been paid but went home after I'd done salaries! Am going to try Parkrun tomorrow even if I have to walk it. Who knows, a week off running may actually be of benefit. Hope your tummy sorts itself out!
Oh well sounds like you're slowly coming back to health. See that brilliant stubborn streak comes to the fore once more... Good luck for the ParkRun, let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed for you, and my tum is still gurgling but in safety of my own home, so no embarrassment likely in public...
I can't believe you actually went for a run with a bad tum - very commendable!!!! Yep, I have to accept that I only have two weeks until the triathlon. I couldn't really improve my fitness levels in that time even if I wanted to so I just have to take things a bit easy!

Yes and in truth really no idea where it came from. Maybe its the running in the heat previously meant that my normal running rate is better than I imagine but 9kmh has been my standard so far. sorry sneaky runner alert!

Maybe this time, but you're runnin EVERY second day. Night out or not, upset stomach or not, Lucifer's home hot or not. You are just out there, running, and then sharing your stories with us. You can say whatever you want, but you are my hero!
Well done JanCR, I am constantly amazed by your running in the heat & hills... I still have problems running anything more than a slight incline... & LOVE your running reports!
Oh JCR - good job it wasn't me on your run. To me, not knowing a word of Italian, 'Hai fatto un buon lavoro' in your circumstances would probably have sounded like they were being rude about your size whilst simultaneously reminding you you needed a good loo ( which sounded like it could have been the truth today)!!!

I haven't run for a week as I'm hosting a student from, wait for it, Bologna!! He requires breakfast exactly when I usually run and, like you, I'm a creature of habit so don't like going in the evening, and have to get to work as soon as he's dined. Still, he's off to Stonehenge tomorrow early and I have no work, so I'll get back in the saddle but doubt I'll manage 30 mins. He's leaving on Sunday so next week will be my week to get back on track. Hate the darker mornings, though - may have to join a gym for the winter...

Bad luck on darker mornings, for me it's a toss up on dark - mosquitoes vs. Light equals hot, hot, hot.
Gawd knows. All I know is he does a weird thing with his cereal. He adds hot, strong, milky coffee to granola. Actually, think I'll give it a try after he's gone! He made us laugh last night when he patted his tummy after dinner and said 'I am so dinner'!!
Oh btw I checked out the granola and milky coffee combo, with my friends M and G, they had no idea why I was perplexed, so there you have it hot milky coffee in granola, is very normal

Did my usual route this am testing out Runkeeper - I've tried MMR but don't like the ads in the free version. RK was good but for some reason, it decided to stop playing my music and we dived mid-chapter into the God of Small Thongs audio book. Put me right off my pace and messed up my splits but..... was actually quite nice! Now have the dilemma of music or a soothing voice chatting away. Thought of you - imagine Mr Smooth talking you up the Hill that Kills and all the way back down again! Mmmmm!
Trotted and with gritted teeth... I was praying that I didn't have to stop. After my crisis of confidence with Mr Smooth, he seems to have taken the hint and started talking again. But I do wish he'd talk a bit more, then I'd dream those runs away
