Technology is great !! (Garmin Forerunner 235)

Bought myself a Garmin Forerunner 235 - wonderful piece of wearable technology - a lot, lot better than any of my previous Fitbits.

I decided at the end of week 3 to give the GPS tracking a go and as usual got a bit enthusiastic running over 24 minutes for the last 3 minute section :) but it showed a nice map of my run, together with elevation, cadence, heart rate, pace data etc. The Garmin is easy to read, is always showing the time and gives notifications from your phone :) The best bit of tech I ever bought by far!

I was just looking at gps watches , as i use an app on my phone which is difficult to get in and out of its arm wallet to sort out , especially when its raining! Ill look into this one , so thank you!

I got one Saturday, use it to replace my Apple Watch and Fitbit combo. I really like it and have customised the data fields in the second screen to give me cadence and heart rate. I do love a gadget or two 🙂

Ooh- gadget envy! I've got a Garmin Forerunner 110, which won't be anywhere near as fancy as yours, but it does what I need and you're right about it being a lot easier than trying to faff about with phones and armbands. Enjoy!

Just be careful, please. You may feel like a big boy runner, what with your Garmin and all, but if you are going to totally abandon the training plan, you won't get a lot of sympathy if you end up injuring yourself.

This is not the Top Gear forum!!

I think I know what I'm doing - I'm not a little child. You have absolutely no idea of my level of fitness and I suggest you go troll someone else!!

Hmm. I suggest you wind your neck in. You are indeed not a little child, you are a middle aged man so have no excuse to behave like one.

You ar also correct that we have no idea of your level of fitness, but it is reasonable to assume from your posts and the fact that you are doing C25kthat you are not a seasoned runner. Bumping a 3 minute run to. 24 minute run is not the mark of someone who has the slightest idea what he is doing. IannodaTruffe , on the other hand, does have a great deal of experience running and advising people starting out in their running. That's why it says "mentor" after his name.

The purpose of the forum is to advise and support. If you can't distinguish between that and trolling, then jog on.

You are hardly supportive, in fact downright condescending and I have therefore decided to take your advice and delete my account - I hope you are proud of yourself!

Trolling is a word that is taken very seriously on this forum and I know the advice that was given was in your own interest and safety and not trolling at all. We try and keep a pleasant atmosphere on the forum.

Odysseus 10, I am sorry that you interpret my response as trolling. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is not my style. I would be happy for this thread to go to arbitration by any independent moderator, if you sincerely think it to be trolling.

I believe they would understand that as a Mentor on this forum, my role is to guide people safely through the NHS C25k programme and that it would have been remiss of me not to point out that deviating from the plan is risky. This is as much for the sake of other people reading your post, who may not have your level of fitness, as it was for you.

It takes many months to build up running fitness and over the four years I have followed this forum I have witnessed many people who have done too much too soon and ended up injured. Getting the word Graduate after your name on this forum, or slapping a fancy watch on your wrist may make you feel like an experienced runner capable of anything....the sad fact is that only slow and steady progress will turn you into a runner and following the NHS C25k programme is one of the safest ways to get you started.

As far as I am aware, you have not deleted your account yet and I would urge you not to on the basis of this minor spat. We are an inclusive, supportive and non judgemental community and we all learn from one another, so please, take my warning, in the sense that it was offered, and stay on board for the rest of your running journey.

I do not bear grudges.

The advice given was done so by a very experienced individual who is a very active on this and other NHS forums and genuinely giving you the advice to prevent injury. He is certainly not a Troll. All he was saying is don't do too much and try to run further or faster just because you have a new watch on your wrist. Best to stick to the C25k plan. Best wishes, Damien
