Had blood taken for thyroid function first thing, took one look at the weather and put on Kagool. Drove down to start of run (yes I know I didn't need to wear kagool in car but it was for quickness). After the drive (of under 5 minutes) I arrived to sunshine and blue skies. Tied kagool around waist (very) securely (you never know) and set off.
Laura has made friends with me again so actually we set off togther. I was so slow, but Oldfloss would have been proud of me. Even the snails had to wait for me to catch them up. But I did it! 25 minutes of shuffling and I heard Laura tell me that I was a runner - whoop whoop!
It took me another good 5 minutes to unknot my kagool and then have my well earned drink of water. I think the uninterrupted runs are hard psychologically for me as I look forward to the short walking breaks. Well no more of that for me - just runnning and more running. Here's to week 7.

Hey running buddy, we are runners. Both of us were told that so how about that glass of was it red, white or pink? Or are you going to be a blue meanie and insist we wait until podium day? Well done and carrying a kagoule. Is that a breed of dog?
Ha if it was a dog I'd be putting a saddle on him! My youngest gave me a talking to tody and said you're doing this for fitness not fastness. That shall be my mantra from now on. As for the wine I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm abstaining during my running! I will however be raising a glass to us both when we graduate.
Good luck with the thyroid function, hopefully all ticking along nicely... having mine done every quarter at the moment as my Hypothyroid has been a bit bouncy
Week 8 not far away and you know what comes after that 🥇
Yes it's all a bit hit and miss with the old thyroid. It doesn't help that the NHS only take one reading. I seem to have a few ailments that can be atributed to Hasimoto's disease but my doctor doesn't seem interested. No matter at least we are both trying to get fitter. Yes can't believe I've finished week 6. I never thought I'd run for 60 secs so there you go.
Have you looked at the "Stop the thyroid madness" group on Facebook, lots of useful stuff there, totally agree on the NHS only looking at TSH levels and ignoring symptoms, it's an uphill battle and spot on about us getting fit... might as well be as fit as possible regardless of the little butterfly organ... just need to be more aware of the fatigue and muscle/joint pains in my experience.
I would strongly recommend if you are going to look at that hotbed of woo, you also check out what Quackwatch has to say about the author of that book and also: rationalwiki.org/wiki/Hypot...
Just checked it out. Very interesting. I gave up gluten for over a year, not really to do with the thyroid just to see if I felt better. I don't really thing it made much difference so am now eating it again. I suppose we look for answers elsewhere because a lot of us still feel unwell even on medication . Perhaps that's it, that unfortunately there's no magic solution.
My daughter was born without any thyroid, which can be extremely problematic in infancy and early years, so I did a really extreme crash course in endocrinology. I am quite sensitive to these kinds of woo merchants preying on people's insecurities as a consequence .
Oh, how is she now? I do know what you mean but as I say I think people are attracted to 'alternative' stuff because they still don't feel well on their medication. Mind you if you listened to all the alternative advice, you wouldn't eat anything - which might help my weight but I'm not prepared to go that far!
Ha good advice. I think that now the walking breaks are no more I will get my head around continuous running. At least it will be easier to remember from now on.
Well done. Just finished that run myself (I mean just - I am still very red!). It was tough and the psychological aspect was very significant but the more I told myself that the easier it felt to keep going. I ran out of water, the heat was the worst bit and was I wishing it would rain lol.
