really struggling in this heat
Are you able to run very early morning? I am struggling in this weather too and so going out about 5.30 when it's a little bit cooler. Or maybe the other end if the day? - my daughter has been running about 10pm and said it's a bit better then. Well done for your perseverence though, you have done so well - what a star!
Are you hydrated? I got the tip the other day to make sure you drink enough water if you're running in very hot weather. I tried this yesterday and found it helped.
I think some of the more experienced runners say to drink water the night before , I find this much more beneficial. I find that the water isn't in my system as well when I drink it in the same day of the run. I guess it depends how much time you have to get water on board. I found a few runs ago that I needed the loo whilst running after consuming water (probably too much) on the same day of the run.
This definitely. We should be gunning for 3 litres min, ideally every day, but certainly the day before a run or workout, and in this heat easily add another litre to that, if not more.
It sure impacted on mine, but I just decided to take it easier I feel like to avoid over heating I don't know what shade of purple my face is during runs in the hot weather, I'll try and go faster when the heat's died down . If I could I would run at different times but it's not possible.
When you first start drinking a glass of water every 90 mins or so as Rignold suggests you do need to pee more often. But keep on doing this and your body regulates, and it settles down. I have found I drink less tea/coffee which are diuretics if my water intake is good and feel better (not thirsty). The black circles under my eyes are fading and my skin feels better.
Oh ...and my legs are more comfortable when I run. So persist with the water..
I think someone posted a chart about the optimum colour of your pee on here....but I'll leave that thought with you...😆
However there is such a thing as drinking too much water which is incredibly dangerous and most recommendations include tea and even coffee when calculating fluid intake...

note the instances quoted there are within short periods. Drink 7 litres of water in one go and it may well make you ill. 4 litres in an hour probably not sensible, no. But across the course of a day, not really a risk. If you consider that chaps on a night out drink upwards of 8 pints of beer in an session, drinking the same in water spread across a day is not going to be incredibly or remotely dangerous.
Agreed. Important to point out that it needs to be over a long duration though I think...plus it's important to note that it's not just water that counts as fluid intake
Thanks for posting this runslikeagirl. Seems its important not to overdo the hydration.
I hardly ever drank any water by itself until a couple of weeks ago. Just lots of tea or a couple of glasses of wine (evenings) so I think I was a bit dehydrated.
The message seems to be moderate water intake over the whole day.
Thank you for pointing this out...
From the tropics: all good advice above. After a while your body acclimatises somewhat to heat. After all, that's how athletes manage to perform in different climates. My understanding (borne out from experience) is that this can take a few weeks. Until then, I would say, don't push it. That might be dangerous. Accept body's limitations. Heatwave in Britain probably not long enough to allow such acclimatisation.
