How to breathe W3

In W2 they talk about breathing but I didn't really follow it...I was obviously doing something wrong - breathing in for 4 and counting strides on my left foot - seemed waaay to long for me! I'm not struggling for breath at all but would like to know that I'm giving myself every chance of getting this right and getting to the end of W9!

Any tips welcome!

My advice for breathing is think about something else, and let it sort itself out. The more you concentrate on any one aspect of your running, the less easy it becomes. I tried to analyse my arm and leg coordination once, and practically tripped myself up. Trust your body, it knows what its doing, and it's stil getting its head around this running lark so don't pile on any extra pressure :)

Oh that's great to hear, thank you. I kinda felt like it was going ok anyway! If it ain't broke etc 😊

What ever suits you is the right way. If you get breathless slow down. You are doing great!

i found it hard to follow to begin with, now it just automatic.

I breathe in and out, in and out, in and out, in and out....Sometimes slow and sometimes fast.

Its working for me :)

Don't think about it.... just do it and don't stop doing it:)

Steady and slow and breathe in and out.. that is all you need to know:)

There has been at least one similar post and I think the agreement was relax and dont think about it. Thinking makes you feel of of breath. I cant remember who post it but they said "you have managed to breath all your life" and you are doing it right unless you go blue" or something like that

Haha yes very true! The fact it was mentioned on the voice over made me think there was some important 'technique' I should be adopting but will just keep on as is.

Thanks.

No problem. Perhaps you could work up a few snarky replies while you're about it.

In fact my reply wasn't to your comment, but to nikkiwabit , and was not intended as sarcastic, but to highlight how frequent a query/worry the breathing issue is.

There's an argument to be made for practising regular breathing patterns as part of training your body to run.

However, it's not worth getting stressed out about. It's probably better, as others here have said, to relax and do your own thing.

If you want to carry on with breathing patterns though, I very much doubt that they mean you to breath every four strides (that makes me feel faint just thinking about it!) - it should be every four steps :)

So glad to read all this, I have run on and off for years, never really sticking to it and giving up when it got tough. I have tried so hard the breathing techniques but I just can't get into it, I like to breathe how I want too not counting in and out, the counting also distracts me but not in a good way as I'm totally consumed by the counting and really then don't enjoy the run. I like to take a few big breaths and then shallow etc etc, I basically just want to be able to breathe without counting. Always thought I was doing it wrong so good to read the above comments and i will carry on as I know best 😂😂. Thankyou!

i've tried this piece of advice but couldn't get it, best advice like others on here is concentrate on your own breathing style, that way you will know if you need to slow down or have enough in the tanks to speed up :D
