Exercise of a rest day?

Is it ok to do other exercise on a rest day?

I've just started the C25K and plan to run 3 times a week. Up until now I've been a swimmer. I regularly swim twice a week at a moderate pace, and did so through both my pregnancies - so its not a new exercise for me.

If I carry on with my swimming twice a week and run 3 times a week is that ok?

I swim on Monday and Thursday morning. I started C25K last Friday so plan to try to make Friday, Sunday and Tuesday my regular run days. Would that be ok?

Appreciate any advise as really want to give C25K my best shot! Many Thanks

It is not only 'OK' but strongly recommended. Swimming on your rest days will greatly support your running.

Thank you MarkyD . That's a relief as I really didn't want to miss out on my swims! Onwards and upwards (hopefully!)

Exercise on all your rest days is really great.. swimming, cycling walking yoga, whatever you fancy..! Just no running :)

Core strength exercises are good too... strength and flex linked listed, is one many of us used too..

I run Sunday, Tuesday and Friday too.. always have :)

Take your rest days, take it steady and slow and don't push yourself too hard. Listen to your body too... you are used to exercise, but this may give your body a jolt as it is so different if you have not run before... :)

Welcome to this great site.. we are all friendly and supportive and if you keep posting you will find the encouragement invaluable :)

Thank you Oldfloss . I'll go for my W1 R3 tomorrow without the fear I've 'done too much' by swimming today!

You're certainly right that is different as I can swim length after length but putting one foot in front of the other was a massive challenge earlier this week! My legs were fine, it was the breathing which seemed so different from swimming. Beathing felt better on R2 so I'm hoping R3 tomorrow will go well!

I'm looking forward to my running journey and am taking it very slowly.

Thanks for your encouragement and support! :)

You might want to consider sticking to crawl to be kind to your legs, as they'll be tired and maybe a bit achy after the runs.

The rest days are from impact exercise, swimming is a great complement.
