1st Parkrun tomorrow... yikes!

I thought it was about time to do this as I can then only improve on my time. I'm on week 6 run 2 tomorrow which I can remember without Laura in my ear. After the usual 5 min warm up it's a 10 min run a 3 min walk then another 10 min run. Any top tips anyone? I'm going to the St. Albans one by the way.

Excellent, Parkrun is the best invention, ever! Go along, chat to some people, thank the volunteers on your way round, relax don't rush off and remember to smile!

You'll have a good time I guarantee it

And don't forget your barcode! 😎

Thanks for the reply. I do plan to smile, I'm quite excited, if a bit nervous.

As Davoda says, report back and tell us how it goes- I'm volunteering at mine tomorrow, I'll be thinking if you 😄🏃‍♀️

Brilliant. I would start with your 5 min warm up walk which will mean you do not set off too fast.

Have a great time!

Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I was going to count my 5 min walk from the car park as that but if you recommend doing the 5 mins then, I will.

My daughter did this when she was recovering from surgery. Worked a treat. Put yourself towards the back at the beginning so that you dont feel pressured. You will have a great time 👍🏼

Thanks. I've never run at an event before. In fact I can't remember running with anyone else before, except maybe at school. It will be good to have others about with a common goal.

Have you registered and got your bar code ready😀

Yes. I registered ages ago and I've just printed off the bar code and even put some what I call 'shireseal' on it to protect it. Its a bit like laminating without the machine.

Once you start regular park runs get yourself a wristband. My daughter bought me one for Birthday ... along with other running stuff.... wonderful. 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️😊

Go early for the "induction".

Yes start at the back, let the serious runners go first! The tail runner will be last, so don't worry about getting left behind or lost. If it's a big Parkrun it will take a few minutes for you to be able to start running anyway, so no problem using the 1st 5 minutes as your warm up.

Stick to your wk6r2, don't be tempted to run longer than you are meant to & if you have a longer walk at the end, it doesn't matter.

And I agree, thank the volunteers! No volunteers - no Parkrun!

No barcode - no time! So if you forget it & cross the finish line take a token even if you don't have a bar code. (There will be a container for unused tokens)

There is nothing to be nervous about, it's the best free event ever!

Enjoy!

Report back!

How early is early?

Our induction is 15 mins before the start time. I assume that's pretty average.

Most wonderful events ever - don't be concerned, not at all scary. Not going today unfortunately but I've done 3 now, part jog part walk. Mine is in Luton and the briefing does start about 10 mins before.

We've had people from all over world at ours!!

Australia furthest place. Amazing.. and free. Go for it. The volunteer at the back is 'last' so no worries there either. I am usually there too but don't care ... I do it!! 😃

How do I find my nearest Parkrun think I might be nearly ready to run with others

Go onto the Parkrun website and it will give you list of locations where they're held. Print off your barcode and take it with you. Gosh I sound like I'm an expert...ive only been once! Have fun!
