I have just done my second session of week 1 on the Couch to 5K programme and I found that the running sections caused really sore tightness up the outside of my calves. Anyone else had this? It eased off on the later runs, so is it due to a bad warm up? Or something else? Any tips greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Michelle

it's because you are doing something wth your muscles you don't usually do. There may well be a lot of soreness in different places during the course of the programme (and going forward - my triceps are killing me right now. yesterday it was my quads.), but it passes and reminds you you're alive.
Read through some of the other posts on this topic. It is very common. Stretch. Do leg strengthening exercise, get a foam roller and stay hydrated. Annoy the hell out of your loved ones with your groans and moans, and feel virtuous about them.
It's due to your being new to exercise. Once your body gets used to the exertions you will find the niggles will diminish. Running is largely about the calves, which is why the warm up and cool down, rest days, are important. Post run calf stretching is good. Just gentle stuff mind ☺
