I think you are assuming that Week 1 must somehow be gentler and easier than Week 2.... I'd rather run a 10k any day than do Week 1 again... indeed that is a big motivator for me in keeping running. I don't ever want to have to do Week 1 again!
I reckon it's only there because people think they can at least run for 60 seconds, so they are prepared to give the programme a go.
Well done Cathy, that's brilliant! Week 1 is very difficult, far more difficult than week 9 to be honest. Interval training (start stop start stop) is much harder for your body than staying exercising for a period of time. It's why interval training tends to get you fitter faster, and why it's a great start for C25K.
