Hey there, I am new to this forum but not so new to Health Unlocked which is why I know this is the right place to be for encouragement, motivation and advice.
I wanted to start running about six months ago and just kept finding reason upon reason to put it off. I actually went shopping for some running clothes a few days ago and bought XL and it was still too small so I thought oh fluff it, let's just throw on some shorts and a top and just get on with it. So I did.
I did my first run today... W1D1 I think it's called here? I just sat down with some water to catch my breath and to write about it here.
My shins feel sore, my hips hurt and my lungs are burning (I have asthma) plus I feel like a red hot furnace but I am very pleased to have completed it. I hope to be able to motivate myself to do that again in two days!

Ha ha , I love this, a kitten , a Tiger and a Pug having a conversation , Ha ha
Well done for taking up this amazing challenge. Keep at it slow and steady.
It is so worth it , and the self belief and confidence you will gain , is truly wonderful. Please keep posting on here so that we can support you along your way.
It's almost sounding like the start of a joke... a kitten, a tiger and a pug walk into a bar or something!
One of my friends started running 2 years ago and the smile on her face when I saw her after doing a really long run even though she was exhausted was so motivational. I wanted to feel whatever she was feeling at that very moment!
well im 64 and like you never run since i was in school and only did it then when i had too

But im sure i will overcome and you will too just listen to the guys on here that have all done it before just go slow and steady and you will get there its not about speed but being able to run for 30 mins as they said to me 5k is still 5k no matter how long it takes .
stick with the plan and with the guys (gals included ) on here and you get all the advice and support you need
Hiya 2fat2run! I spent my time today trying to tell myself that noone was paying any attention to me running (or rather slow jogging) and reminding myself to pick my feet up because I am prone to tripping over. I feel so much better now the first one is done, and I will remember what you said about 5k still being 5k no matter how long it takes
Well done, Lenne - getting started is the first and biggest challenge! You'll receive plenty of advice along the way, I'm sure, but most of all, enjoy it!
I'm new and did my 1st run today too and I feel so much better for going! I started slow and maybe it took me a little longer than I had hoped but I went and loved it! I'm actually looking forward to heading out on Thursday! So much so I think I'm going to treat myself to some new running pants and trainers.
Nice one Fifi! That's a great idea to treat yourself as you go too, will have to think of something to treat myself to at the end of the first week! Will look forward to hear how you do on Thursday too
Welcome onboard, well done on your first run out. I always say the hardest run of the program is the first one as you build up the courage to give it a go. Now you have that one under your belt there will be no stopping you. Slow and steady is the way forward..
Wednesday my legs ached but I did get out and run again this morning, not as hard as I thought it might be. Legs did seem to loosen up once I got going.
Well done and do keep going! Follow the advice to have a rest day in between and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve. I look forward to hearing about your progress in future posts.
Thats amazing you got out and ran. Well done. Hoping to get out and reading this has given me encouragement to do the same. Thank you You've got this 😊
