It thought I ran 2.25 miles in 25 minutes yesterday (W7R2). Its assumptions on stride length are a bit off for me for running (although accurate for walking). Actual distance? 1.66 miles!
Fitbit is so sweet: It thought I ran 2.25 miles... - Couch to 5K
Fitbit is so sweet
mmmm my fit bit and my treadmill give me totally different readings on distance but if I calculate distance from the time and speed, the fit bit is more accurate. And it's the bigger distance so that's the one I believe!
I have an old HR. I know exactly where I ran from and to, so I mapped the path on plotaroute. I suspect you are running faster than I! About four miles an hour is around about right for me - I can walk as fast as I run at present.
No I'm running slower than you and way slower than I can walk. I suspect I could do it faster but I don't want to run out of steam at the end. The treadmill says I am doing 2.7kms, including a 5 minute walk at the beginning and 5 minutes at the end. The fit bit says it's more like 3.4kms. Is it possible for them to be so different? I guess I should believe the treadmill.....
Although I am trying so hard to not focus on the distance and just think about the time. It's hard though cause I want to know how far off the 5kms I am. I also think I need to get outside soon.
I am not a techy, but what i recogise is that gps can track the ground covered via satellite. So accurate providing you do not lose the signel at any point. Other tracker devices which count footsteps etc, will only be accurate on distance if you have entered you stride length, just as pedometers are/were.
Im sure a more techy person can give you more/ better info.
I've just discovered Map My Run and that uses GPS - I'm not that interested in how fast I have run, but like to see the distances building up. And, love showing my hubby how far I've run...xx
I use MMR for same reason. You also have a run log with it so you can see every run you do 😀🏃🏻♀️ If you go into Settings there are loads of extras like voice promts that will break into your music etc to tell you distance pace etc.
I would think treadmills can monitor how far the treadmill has traveled for each run so should be pretty accurate.
LOLS yes the voice prompts ! First time I went out I just had my phone in my pocket, and kept hearing what sounded like a voice when I was high up on the moor. Odd! Seemed to coincide with the ducks and geese that were flying overhead up there so just thought it was them! It was only when I had stopped to go through a gate that I heard the woman pipe up in my pocket ! Felt slightly silly for thinking the birds sounded like humans ...xx
i just use sony lifelog app myself as it auto tracks when your walking, running or cycling and does it pretty well. buy i guess it also depends on your phone as well.
Interesting points made by all, I tried comparing my tech by wearing 2 watches (on the same wrist) for a time whilst walking. Not sure on which was more accurate as they were both gps - I'm aiming for time not distance for the time being and of course keeping with the program Well done for getting to W7
I'm definitely not a Techie, I run with a Kitchen Timer. One of my sons had a fFtbit kind of thing, I got two different readings for the same distance on two different days. To me something like that either works or it doesn't - and if it doesn't it comes down to a guessing game
The route I run now I measured by my 'pretty impressively accurate' car odometer and use that distance as a baseline for how much time it takes me to run. When my time drops a bit over that distance I'll know its time too to extend my runs.
A chipped hard-core race is probably the most accurately measured, will be running either a 5K again in Fall or hopefully going out for the 10K, was very surprised when I did the 5K last Fall in 33 something as my best time ever over my 'measured' 5 was 28 something
