Welcome to week 5 of the Xmas quest πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„ apologies for the delay in getting this post up.... I'm away on a few days holiday 😎

How is everyone doing? Are you progressing towards your goals?

Getting close now, over half way!!

Please feel free to join if you've just graduated. Most of us find its a great way to keep, our motivation up.

I find that seeking goals for the next six weeks helps to keep me on track and focussed, and I have little challenges with rewards along the way that give me a boost and keeps the motivation up.

Make it personal to yourself and achievable but as with everything on here have fun with it and enjoy taking part.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises.

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So, if you wanted to join all you have to do is put:

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put our longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

Good Luck everyone !

A perfect 7 for me on the daily yoga session. The tweak was buying a better box of matches!

Two runs, both pleasing as both in different ways in circumstances I might have cried off. A little concerned about my running companion though.

Weight... well that was weird. Had been static then dropped 2kgs overnight only to go up by 3kgs the next day. It has settled back again but still higher than I wanted to be before Christmas really gets under way and I am not very optimistic about achieving my (very modest) goal. I've not been recording my eating which makes a difference - but I am not sure which comes first.

Last week was a success. Managed my two runs including Parkrun which was great because the weather was crummy.

Didn't manage both my cross training sessions due to a treat to see Chicago in Birmingham - brilliant!, but did loads of walking, then got a new PB at parkrun - waahaay! So, thinks to self, will shift second crosstrain back a day so a rest day falls before parkrun.....

Have upped the weights a little bit.....decided I'm like a T-Rex, got really strong legs but useless arms.....πŸ˜„......

Up to date with the HM plan.........scary how fast the weeks are going.....😱

Happy running all

Hmm, may have managed to make a few people smile or indeed laugh, given out a fair few hugs πŸ€— , but apart from that, on the sporty front, it's a big fat zero from me! Sorry Juju, so wanted to do well for your first quest. But, it'll just make my next run even sweeter when it comes. 😊😊 Enjoy your well deserved break! 😎

I am running every other day. I have just 2 x 8k build-up runs left on my current myasics plan. I have two 10k races planned but not til March so I might do some longer, slower runs before embarking on my next race plan.

I might need the solitude of the long, slow run as I have family descending for Christmas. Eek! 😯

My original quest was to get to 12 KM so I could run somewhere specific - I wanted to see the chalk pits in Cambridge that I've never seen, but when I felt up to a long run I chose to go somewhere else! I had a lovely run last week, 13K around Grantchester Meadows, and got a PB for distance. The chalk pits are still on the cards, but now I'm going to run there, have a look around then meet Baldy for a drink or lunch in a nearby pub, and he can drive me home! I think that's very civilised!

Other than that, I've been researching other places in Cambridge I've not seen before and running to them! I found an amazing Gothic cemetery right in the centre of Cambridge last week, very beautiful and unexpected.

I only managed one week last week as I had a cold passed on to me by my lovely son. It was a nasty one, meaning I had to take myself off to bed for a day, which I never do! So just one run to check that I still can after a week off - was very happy to see that I am now running 500m further in half an hour than I was when I graduated in September!

Sorry another boring report. "Wake up at the back there!"

Finally did a park run on Saturday which was great and did a post with picture. Though it meant I didn't do my Sunday run so had a 3 day break prior to my run today.

Decided to experiment today tried out stepping stones podcast. Have read range of reports form good to bad to indifferent. I found the 1,2,3,4 pace a bit faster than my own but probably about right being short and a bit more rapid suited my little legs. I did have to have a break roughly every five minutes and walk for a minute. The pace did make me more breathless. Reminded me of being back to start of C25K. Thing is I know better now and know that there is no "shame" for taking a quick walking breather.

Did 6K overall in about 40 minutes. did 3 laps of lake 4.8K while doing the podcast and despite walking occasionally combined with the faster pace still did 5K in about 33 minutes and still had enough puff to get up my hill at the end.

I will persist with the podcast into the new year apart from the pace found the tips on technique trying a more circular stride instead of my glide and less tensing of shoulder etc useful. Sure will eventually get into the faster groove.

Will mix up my 3 runs a week to keep it interesting. Will use stepping stones podcast on my regular 4K run to work and try it out again on 3 loops of lake on Wednesday. Then stick to a regular 6K+ on Sunday runs increasing times gradually.

Am near to my 45 minutes running so happy with that. Will make core exercises and podcasts feature more in my next plans. Got to have some planks to look forward to !

If true that I can still improve for another 7 years (as some experts say) I don't want to peak too soon !! Have you ever felt like a guinea pig ??

Hope you all have a good Christmas Break.
