Welcome to week 3 of the Xmas quest πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

How is everyone doing? Are you progressing towards your goals?

Please feel free to join if you've just graduated. Most of us find its a great way to keep, our motivation up.

I find that seeking goals for the next six weeks helps to keep me on track and focussed, and I have little challenges with rewards along the way that give me a boost and keeps the motivation up.

Make it personal to yourself and achievable but as with everything on here have fun with it and enjoy taking part.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises.

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So, if you wanted to join all you have to do is put:

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put our longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

Good Luck everyone !

I'm going to be stepping up my distance now I've got my lovely new shoes! Planning a 9KM run on Wednesday, one of my favourite to routes to Coton and back.

I'm doing some core work on non running days, 20-30 minutes of Pilates. I know it will help my back as well as my running. I hurt in some strange places today!

That is such a good idea, I hope it's gone well 😎

Im doing ok ish! Had a couple of good short runs this week, my knee seems good! Im saving my next 5k for Christmas eve parkrun just to stay mindful not to over use my knee. I volunteered at parkrun last Saturday so that i couldnt be tempted to run distance too soon, I really enjoyed it and have volunteered for coming Saturday too.

Im doing the glute challenge exercises as planned.

Im getting out there post IC which i am sooooo happy about πŸ˜€πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸΌ

Well done you are doing well and being really sensible re IC which will keep away further injury. It's great you are volunteering at parkrun, it's such a good way to give something back 😎

Well I did bake a delicious fruit cake last Thursday! But, that wasn't one of my goals. ;) I am still "off games" due to dodgy knee, but doing some little exercises to keep it from seizing up, hot then cold little thingy on it, raising it when I can. Will be glad when I can bound up the stairs again as usual, not to mention go for a RUN!!! So, gentle cycle at the gym on Tues and Thurs planned. Little row if possible on Wed and Thurs. Hope everyone else has a great week! :)

Well done you are being sensible but how frustrating for you. I hope it clears up very soon.... 😎

Found out on Thursday that warm compress is not a good idea as my knee is hot. Physio said over the phone that I may have an infection in it πŸ™„ Seeing a knee chap on Monday! Hobbling continues, but I am resting it at the moment πŸ˜€ Happy running to you Juju πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Did my Sunday run yesterday. Had to bit earlier than would like. Relative visiting duties and stuff . Also Saturday night visit involved some nibbles and cake and stuff not used to.

Anyway excuses over run not too bad. Bit slower than usual setting out about 7am . Did same time 43 minutes and huffed and puffed up hill back home. Cut distance a bit by starting run at bottom of hill so about 6K . Sun not up quite and avoided risk of slipping. (Another feeble excuse).

Notice little things as running. Found myself "burping" around the route. Think the Saturday night "nibbles" were revolting. Definitely mind over matter yesterdays run.

At least no serious relative duties to sidetrack me before my parkrun on 17th December. Am definitely going to find time to buy some new trainers and try to run them in at least a week before. As the song goes "I'm so exited". At my age shouldn't be getting exited ! But as the song goes "But I just can't fight it".

Even found a decent shop that will do a "Gait analysis". I will ask them if they do a discount for semi-retired poor nearly pensioners ! As they say "If you don't buy a ticket in the raffle you don't win a prize".

New trainers and parkrun. Think got "Forrest Gumpitus". Must see my Shrink !!

If they give discounts for club membership see if they accept C25k! Got to be worth a try.

Good luck with your parkrun Joe, great that you are going for it! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜ƒ

Well done and so sensible to get proper gait analysis too.... 😎

Thanks for that I'll check. If so might buy some extra stuff !

Hi Everyone,

I had a reasonable week, considering I was hit with another nasty cold (really tired of them by now).

I only managed two runs and two stretches, but a good amount of walking on the other days. Best of all, my hip and calf are in great shape and I am able to manage my HR again with pace and I happily covered 6.5 km yesterday, with only a few intervals.

This week, I plan to try to run four times, 20, 20, 30 and 60 minutes, with at least one of the 20 minutes continuous. Good hip stretches, for each of those days, with a few pushups thrown in.

Happy running, fellow questers!

Well done on achieving so much with a cold... I hope you are on track with your goals this week but don't feel bad if you aren't... that's quite a lot of running planned 😎

Another not-so-good week. Still fighting that cold, but it's on its way out. Made it to Parkrun and that's it.

Ha ha, that really made me laugh JP!!!!

I hope those on the couch this week will soon be back and up and at em!!!!

I am tapering this week as I have a 10k race this Sunday. So, only short leisurely jogs for me this week. I am dead excited, I won't try to hide it and deffo won't fight it. I am looking forward to this local race, which is well known for its PB potential. Here's hoping

Good luck for this week everyone!

I had a good week run-wise. I did a Speed podcast run. I've done this one quite a few times now and I am always very glad when the last interval is finished. One morning I had a beautiful 45 minute run around the lake in a local park and was lucky enough to see a kingfisher darting across the lake. I ran just over 5K in that time, but it felt quite comfortable. Unlike parkrun, which I did on Saturday. This starts off around the same lake but then sneaks off up a few hills and then back down and around the lake. The gremlins tend to lay in wait by the last lap of the lake, mostly because I am "lapped" at that point by the 30 minute crowd, who are then wandering off to the car park as I pant past for my final lap! I was quite tempted to wander off with them, but pushed the gremlins into the lake and finished in just under my previous time. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is great at parkrun and the faster runners are very encouraging, I just feel absolutely done in by the end. Having done two 5Ks last week, I am planning a slightly gentler week.

Well done and those intervals whilst hard will really make a difference 😎

An OK week... just the one run... I always forget how exhausting this time of year is for me.

I do finally feel as though I am starting to get back where I wanted with daily yoga. I treated myself to a tealight advent calendar. Now I really want to get on and do my practice whilst it is still dark because yoga by candlelight is so lovely.

Ooh, a tealight advent calendar. I love candles! I have an advent candle on the go, but it doesn't last very long. I have to watch it like a hawk in case I accidentally burn up a week!

Enjoy your advent calendar, I'm intrigued.... and enjoy the yoga it sounds wonderful 😎

Run went well this morning . Started at 6am earlier than usual 9am ish. Had to wait in from 8 till 1 for someone to look at leaking roof. R.an 43 1/2 minutes for about 6 1/2 K.

Anyway it was positively tropical temperature wise compared to last couple of runs . Still started half way down hill checking out state of footpath in dark. Ran down side of lake and up and reversed back down canal and back up lake and final hill. Felt really good and ran about extra 100 odd metres up the canal at half way to make 21 minutes running. The hill home didn't seem such a struggle as last time.Tthink in future may start out earlier. I'm usually up early a t 5ish for work. I very rarely sleep in on days off. Probably best if possible to run at same time. run 6am on Friday runs to work anyway.

Still not doing core exercises regularly think will have to make that a serious New years resolution.

Last week...good exercise wise 2 x 5ks....bad food wise - actually did a job where I was fed breakfast and lunch, and cakes and bikkies at tea breaks. Rude to refuse, it's so rare these days.

Hopefully no more work till the new year... let the laziness begin πŸ‘

How lovely and rare to be fed at work... I don't blame you I always take whatever is given!!! 😎

Not so good last week, as I previously posted I had a sports massage on Tuesday followed by Pilates. Thursday I did a short 2.5k run to test out the results of the massage - pretty good.

Intended to do Parkrun on Saturday with my daughter for the first time - but that didn't happen. She arrived late on Friday after a day at work followed by her regular sports training, and she'd been up till 2am on Friday at a work 'do'. She was still keen to do Parkrun but I let her sleep in on Saturday - nice mum that I am! Spent Saturday morning baking insteadπŸ˜€

This week so far - did a gym session followed by Pilates. Getting a bit busy with Christmas things as well as work so may not manage to run till Saturday.

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Joy57

That all sounds very busy well done!!

Did my now regular 4K and a bit run to work this morning in my new swish trainers I bought yesterday. Feel better running at these temperatures about 6C rather than near freezing. Only downside was having to remove a layer and run in my rugby top.

First time took a what I would call a light "pump bag" slung over my shoulders to put sweatshirt in. I took spare pair of trainers to wear at work and light waterproof. I wasn't going to get my new swish trainers mucky at work ! Theyr'e just for running !

Wasn't too bad and didn't feel the light bag impede me. I shaved about 1/2 minute to about 28 1/2 minutes for my 4K and a bit run. will put this down to better temperature. I think sucking in really cold air at start of run is a a hindrance. The new trainers I think also helped. They felt really snug and didn't even think about them. although my others did the job they were not as tight a fit and was more conscious of them . Think time will tell.

I didn't know but apparently the new trainers are luminous. One of girls I work with saw me and said I was lit up like a Xmas Tree ! And there's me trying to be inconspicuous !!

ju-ju-Graduate in reply to

Wow luminous shoes sound very exciting, you must post a pic!!! They sound perfect too 😎

Life seems to be getting in the way slightly topped off with end of termitis and new management. Oh and a fab gig! Still, will have managed 2 runs this week so not a disaster. Want to try for a 2nd 5k tomorrow. Running certainly helps the stress levels πŸ˜€ Happy running all πŸ‘ŸπŸƒπŸ‘ŸπŸƒ

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to RunningGeek

Well done, that sounds pretty impressive to me... and it so helps the stress levels doesn't it? I'd go nuts if I didn't run!!! 😎

Hubby is getting used to me getting home tired and stressed, hardly able to talk and just going out to run. He accepts that tea will be super late just so I can be human πŸ˜€

Had a good run today. Did same as run last Wednesday about 6 1/2 K in 43 minutes. Shaved about 1/2 minute off time. Set out 7am . Forecast said cloudy so not worth waiting for Sun to come out to play.

Instead of running directly at side of lake decided to run along well lit straight footpath by flats that run alongside the lake. Decided Safety first.

Next time will run a bit further up canal given my aim is to add a bit more time getting to 45 minutes. Running faster unexpectedly doesn't help !!!

Learned such a lot this year. Even visit to buy new trainers. Assistant showed me how to lace up trainers and do "Lace lock" also to skip a look in lacing if have wide feet. his advice was right did the lace lock but didn't need to skip a loop . Despite having very slightly wider feet than average the trainers were slightly wider or possibly more flexible to cope with normal lacing.

Even the little things and all the advice on C25K has made such a difference.

Perhaps it might be worth having a pinned post on all the things we have learned on our journeys here ? Perhaps there is already ?
