Made it! So chuffed. Graduated today with my first ever park run. 45 mins... a slow jog ... but I didn't walk and that was my aim . If I can do it anyone can.

I think they are so cute but I don't have one. We go away a lot otherwise I would consider it. My initials are PUG πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It that a photo of one of yours? ... cute!

Do you have more than one??

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply to Pug1

Theyre your initials ? Lucky you ha ha :-)

I have 2 boys, Rocky hes 7 and beige and Doug, hes 5 and black, I am pug mad :-)

Ah no, that's not one of mine, it was just a pic I saw and thought it was very apt for Remembrance Weekend xxx

Well done you - managing to find that very appropriate photo.

Do your pug babies go out running too? 😊

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply to Pug1

Thank you xxx

No I don't take them with me . I could probably take Doug as he likes a runaround, but Rocky is a dawdler. He would stand and sniff at a blade of grass for twenty minutes if I let him. He likes lots of stops just to have a sniff at something Ha ha ! :-) xxx

Does your Doug have his own Facebook page? I'm sure I've seen one called Doug the Pug. My cousin has a gorgeous pug called Dolly, they are pug mad!!!!

Ha ha ! No it's not my Doug . I know which Doug you mean though . He has thousands of followers on Facebook and Instagram . He's very famous ! :-) xxx

Well done. I graduated with a parkrun some time ago, feels like a very glamorous way to do it. Wow, go you and brilliant to run that long and to cover 5k at the same time. What have you planned to do now?

Pug1 profile image
Pug1Graduate in reply to JoolieB1

Next year in May there's a 10K in Aberdeen ' Baker Hughes ' ( sponsor). and for the first time there's to be a 'Great north run' in Aberdeen in August. I've signed up for both 10K's.

Think I have caught the bug!

JoolieB1 profile image

That is a great goal. I am 53 so when I graduated, I felt increasing distance would be my goal as I just don't want to run very fast (and my little legs like to take their time)! I found even after graduating that 5k was something I wanted to get right and so after I did my first 5k, I did 3 x 5 every week. That lasted many weeks and then on a good run, I kept going and did 5.5k. I know it is only a little further but I just wanted to see if I could do more! Then I continued with 2 x 5 a week but had a "long" run once a week. I did a 6, 7, 8 and then a 10k! So it is possible!

I had some leg niggles along the way, nothing serious but I took them seriously - introduced strength and flex exercises, ran on softer ground for a time, re-introduced walk run for a while until I was ready to go again

Thanks for posting this as your plans seem to mirror mine; nice to see that it's achievable. Just need to reach 5k now!

JoolieB1 profile image
JoolieB1Graduate in reply to CarolStr

If I can, you will too. Just use common sense so you can ease up to avoid injury. There is always slowing down too, I find sometimes doing that reintroduces fun into my running, after all, it is not a race. Other times, when I feel great, I can have a little sprint. Today, I have a jiggly knee, so I will take 2 rest days and on Tuesday a nice slow 5k and no further

What a great way to graduate - now you just need to go and claim your shiny new badge:

go to pinned posts on the right, under November Graduation Badges :-)

The first 10K is in May so reckon if I just keep going I will manage.

Slow and steady😊 cause I also realise its easy to pick up injuries ☹️

Meintheuniverse profile image
MeintheuniverseGraduate in reply to Pug1

You'll definitely manage!!! I'm doing my first race (4.8km) the first weekend of December. Hopefully after that I can use you as inspiration to aim for a 10km. There are two near me to choose from in June. I Love your spirit, and you're so right to take it slow and steady, I have to remind myself that too.

Wow! Well done! I'm still trying to pluck up the courage to do a Parkrun, at our local one everyone is much faster than me. But maybe in a few months I may be brave!

Pug1 profile image
Pug1Graduate in reply to Von99

Von99 you really don't have to be brave. Do a park run search - there's one young lady was a particular inspiration. She was posting a big thank you to all the volunteers who have to spend extra time cause she's always last--- amazing. I went myself to park run and wasn't really surprised to find they were a really friendly bunch. Loads of runners passing me on their way back were giving me encouragement. A high five .. nearly missed by me cause it was unexpected!!! .. and he was going at such a speed πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
