Help Me!: Im a 29 year old who wants to lose... - Couch to 5K
Help Me!
I think your'e on the right site. Give the programme a try. I'm only on week 2 but feeling the benefits already.
If you're interested in starting the C25K program, it will definitely help you lose weight! it's great because you start out very slowly and gradually build up, so anyone can do it. Eventually you'll be able to run for 30 mins straight, and after that you can really up your running routine to burn even more calories!
My advice would be, add strength training to your exercise regime from the start. For me this means Pilates - you don't need any equipment and can do it anywhere. This kind of resistance exercise will help make you a better runner but also burn more calories as you increase muscle tone
If you are wanting weight loss support, then it may be worth going onto the Weight Loss forum..many of our runners on here are on there too.. Or are you already on there?
This programme will tighten, and tone, and may help with weight loss, but is not specifically for that
It is a great structured programme and you will fell fitter...
Here is the link and the forum link is there too
You've come to the right place. My motivation was wanting to lose weight and also a health warning wake up call with high blood pressure etc. As others have replied you can also do other exercises which will help with your running and health.
I regularly cycle 5 days to work 3K there and 3K back . Have always cycled but still was not as fit as I thought. Regularly now run 5 to 6K. also as others say take it as slow as you like and even repeat a week if need be. Every run is progress from being on the couch.
I couldn't run for a bus now I could beat the bus running home (actual fact now in Birmingham rush hour). The best thing is the great sense of achieving something you thought impossible. Also the great feeling of health and wellbeing that helps with all the other life issues.
You will find that it gets easier my 5K runs now are as they say "Like a walk in the park". Was about 13 stone 2 years ago. 10lb of that was lost over the 9 week C25K am now only couple of pounds above normal BMI for a "vertically challenged" person , "5 foot 2 eyes of blue" as the song goes. Am happy with my weight and health.
Let us know how you progress.
If I can do it you can! When I started Couch 25k I struggled to run a minute, I am now at the end of week 8. It hasn't been easy but I have kept going. It works, try & enjoy the runs. I have discovered canal towpaths, woodland paths, tracks and footpaths, all within a short distance from my home which I never knew where even there. I regularly see swans, geese etc on my runs and dog walkers, cyclists etc always say hello, even had 'your doing well' from a lady today who I can not ever remember seeing before. So just try it, keep at it & tell yourself you can do it!
