So - 31 degrees today and I though starting at 10am would be cool enough - wrong!
That September sun is HOT โ๏ธ but having learned the slow lesson (again) I set off happily on my new 5k route at a very sedate pace.
After 5 minutes of running Van Morrison stopped crooning in my ears and I heard the bing bong that means my earphones had died ๐
Nooooooooooo I thought - not naked ...noooooooo ๐
New short but so steep hill loomed and all I had the pleasure of listening to was what sounded like an 90 year old (no disrespect intended) with acute asthma - Blimey!
Carried on and met my old route and thought the only thing to do was concentrate on the breathing - so (as I think @davelinks posted recently - thanks Dave this was a life saver) I did the 3 steps to breathe in and 2 steps to breath out routine and it really worked - my breathing went from raggedly to controlled - still a bit panty but controlled ๐
Steady, steady, breathe in, breath out , slowly does it, round the bend and across the flat piece of terrain, onto my favourite place down by the stream under the trees and then the big hill, breathe in, breathe out.....
Stopped here and walked the hill past the horse riders who smiled, waved and shouted enjoy your run ( do I look like a runner now??) and then onto the new route again down through the shade and coolness of the trees where I ran again with my beloved dog waving his happy tail in front of me, checking over his shoulder every now and again that I was still with him ๐ that boy sure keeps my spirits up
Stopped for my warm down walk. Ran for about 30 minutes in total with a break in between and a lovely long warm down and I was sooooo hot afterwards!
In retrospect I am glad I lost my sound today as it did make me concentrate on my breathing which is not something I think about much and it really helped my run and my ability to keep going - will remember that in future runs...so much to learn ๐ฎ
Never thought I'd ask for it but looking forward to some cooler weather ๐ Happy running ๐
