You know when you actually run 5k? Well, that...

'Tis done. In real life. The mighty 5k was breached in a whisker under 35 minutes. There was no tickertape parade, no fireworks, not even John Inverdale to make fatuous, ill-judged comments. However, at approximately 6.30pm last night, MM witnessed the moment when I ran a continuous 5k.

There were moments when it seemed unlikely. I read many posts involving scenic country routes; the chirrup of a bird, the gentle breeze through the leaves and the distant rumble of a tractor to invigorate the senses. Not so much here. Our second lap of the industrial estate was a definite low point, as was the incline approaching Tesco's car park. Nevertheless, undeterred, we battled on. The 5k point was just shy of the Royal Mail sorting office. It's details like this you never forget. ☺

MM has promised to take me to some more picturesque locations from now on. These are proper 5k runs he says, rather than runninh round and round in circles til we get dizzy. I can't wait.

I know what you mean - everyone else seems to be running through some bucolic idyll straight out of Thomas Hardy while I'm dodging articulated lorries and bin wagons. Hey ho.

PS Well done on the 5k - it's a pretty good feeling wherever it is!

☺ that really made me laugh! Mostly I HAVE to look down rather than around so as to avoid overgrown stinging nettles and dog poo. Still. I'll be sure to report the difference once I'm taken (in a car) to somewhere more picturesque 😆

5k is 5k no matter the surroundings!

Well done!

Well done on your first 5k in a very nice time indeed :) I too long to run along a beautiful scenic route rather than the suburban streets that are my usual stamping ground. However, as Ully says, a 5k is a 5k regardless of where we run it :)
