The practicalities of running

Any advice on how to carry a purse while you're running? I suppose I could just hold it in my hand, I am holding my phone/Laura in one hand so I guess it could work with the other. Any better ideas? I am too big to be wearing fancy armbands, running clothes with built in pockets or running belts. I have worked out how to put my keys onto a string and then thread that into my bra strap, so I'm looking for equally inventive ideas :)

You could sew a pocket inside your running trousers? If it's just for loose change a little long pocket at the hip?

I might try this sparky - nice inventive idea :)

I have seen a wrist band purse in a betterware brochure. Try online. Or you could look for joggers with zip pocket.

Useful when travelling to avoid pick pockets too! Glad you found what you were looking for.

I put my keys under one boob in my bra and my phone down my bra on the other side - classy!

I just wish I had room for anything in my bra other than the obvious body parts ... but nice idea and glad it works for you!

I used to hide my keys in a bush near the house until they fell onto the ground and a dog pooed on them! My next idea was, I thought, inspired enough for Dragons Den. Not being a large chested girl I took the padding out of my sports bra and popped my key into the bottom of the slot so it nestled nicely under one boob.. At about 2k I experienced sharp sudden chest pain and fell to the ground, convinced it was a heart attack. The key had broken through the cheap material and pierced my skin!!

So I'm not going to recommend anything...

When I started, I made a sort of wide belt out of a waistband from some old stretchy yoga trousers - basically a sort of flat tube to wear around waist under your running trousers. Then you can cut slits in a post things inside it! You can buy similar too 🏃

Try a flip belt. They hold keys, phones and anything really. They fit me when I was 17.5 stone and Probably could have got more of me in if I was bigger!!

I have a Karrimor bum bag type of thing from sports direct. Quite cheap and I get my keys phone and tissue in it.

I'm also big and I use a bum bag with no problem. Laura, keys and tissues all sit comfortably together. Not sure I could run with Laura in my hand!

Too big as in, seriously, nobody makes things big enough at a price you can afford... or some daft idea you can kick into touch right now?

I've done all sorts of things - doing the programme my phone was in a neck purse. I am also wearing an over the shoulder bag (one a friend gave me made of old ties - the key thing is that it has a flap over top rather than being open) with dog treats, whistle, phone (these days), keys, spare buffs... and a Dicky bag is clipped to the strap for poo bags fresh and filled. And if I've had my usual backpack with me in the car, my wallet and purse come out with me in an Onyaback (very lightweight, stuffable backpack) I can only just persuade myself not to take a book, just in case!!!

Not what you're looking for?
