I am now on w6 r2 and enjoying it but not really losing much weight, I've been calorie counting with fitness pal also, does it take the longer runs before seeing results?

Yes, usually because although the programme generally feels hard at the beginning you're not actually running off that many calories. You probably will however begin to change shape and feel trimmer. If you gauge success by the scales, then probably time to change and measure everywhere, or go by how your clothes feel, as body shape can change without showing the downward travel in numbers. Look at the posts just below yours "I am new here" and "a post for the beginners...." You will get more insight into your question from them.

Good luck with c25k and with your reduction plan.

P.S. It's the long slow runs that burn off fat

Yes, as you go through graduation and run constantly for at least 30 mins 3 times a week..

You should start to feel trimmer and tauter, but weight loss is not guaranteed. My shape has changed and I am leaner and tighter.. but I put weigh on... good for me, but not for others! Healthy diet is essential too as you know if you are using Fitness pal.

The season is just right for loads of healthy green goodness :) and as my lovely friend davelinks says, once you have built up to Graduation, and are running regularly.. you will feel the difference. :)

floss, I thought I'd let you explain more😁..you built some muscle then floss, hence the weight gain, no bad thing as we age..☺

Bless you, I graduated some time ago and do one long run a week and 2 X 5k and weight loss has been minimal. Health and fitness greatly improved though, not sure why that is because I have been monitoring calories too

I have lost a stone since running. C25k only involves very short periods of run walks so don'-t expect miracles. Combining running with other exercise and healthy eating will see the weight shift but it's a long term commitment. You have to change the habits of a lifetime.

I lost over 3.5 stones at slimming club before embarking on c25k now I run all the while, and walk everywhere I have not put any weight back on but that's down to healthy eating as well

You can do it, anyone can ☺

You may not lose weight, certainly initially, but you will be more trim. I described my toning up the first time I did C 25 k as being like the slendertone effect - each time I made a running step my flab vibrated and toned up! Well, it's not scientific but I like to think of it that way. Good luck.

I have only just started losing weight according to the scales ( I graduated last week) but my husband says I have really toned up. Keep at it and you will see improvements one way or another!

I always look at it as fat is 9cal per gram. If you want to reduce weight then you need a calorie deficit (you eat less calories than you use). Running helps by boosting the calories you use. You can also diet on top of that depending on your base metabolic rate. Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) is your base level of calories used per day just by staying the right temperature, breathing, walking around the house etc. You can work out what your BMR should be there are links online. (search "base metabolic rate calculator")

Say you wanted to loose 0.5kg or 1lb of fat per week, you need a deficit 4500cal per week which is 500cal per day. The safe limit advice is to lose no more than 2lb per week so 1000cal per day.

I've been loosing weight fast and steady using this. By c25K + lots of walking or cross-training, and also dieting at the same time. At the moment I've been loosing about 1.7kg per week as I have been overdoing it and have lost 11.5kg so far.

The above about calories in vs calories out is true, there are unfortunately no tricks or short-cuts (aside liposuction) dont believe in toxins, pills, magic bullets etc. I have tried only dieting before and it never has worked because I couldn't stick to the diet, for me only exercising works as I get bitten by the running bug and that helps me stick to a diet at the same time. So I do it by diet and excercise. Other people are happier with just dieting to reduce the calories in, other people are happy with only exercising to increase calories out.

Try the c25k, read the inspirational posts on here and trust it and you will eventually find you enjoy running and cant imagine a world without doing it, and also providing you with a lot of calories out.

Not sure how to change my text from bold sorry! Also I know 1lb isnt 0.5kg but its close enough for me :p

Good post Kally.

I am very overweight and when i started C25k it was to get healthy and fit, at the same time i decided i needed to change my eating habits and eat healthily as i need to lose weight and couldnt imagine trying to run eating badly as i was.

Ive tried diets before and alhough have lost weight have put it and more back on. This is about change of lifestyle x

Yeah also with the running you can see changes in your weight but also or even better is the feeling that I could run from here to there If I wanted to. Ive been here before, im right at my usual weight where I falter so hoping some other changes I've made will help me keep going this time. But the first time tried I did break through and got thin!

Although a bit overweight, I didn't do the programme to lose weight, rather I wanted to improve my overall health and fitness. I did however lose around 8 kilos over the first 6-9 months running, without changing eating habits. Weight has stayed stable since. From memory the first 3-4 kg had dropped off by the time I graduated.

Well done on your achievements :) Just going to say that makes sense as your BMR will have decreased as you have lost weight so now your calories in = calories out and you are maintaining a stable body weight.

Agree with most posts here, I think if your weight is already stable then weight loss will happen slowly and steadily, however if you are eating an extra 100 calories a day in a week, one small kit kat for example, then it would take more than 2 of the average early week runs to balance that up in terms of stopping weight gain. So starting from a point where weight is stable , or already reducing due to dietary changes, is when you will get best benefit. And even without weight loss fitness is improving and you will become more toned, and have more muscle instead of fat!
