I am enjoying the running and if I'm honest, no matter how hard it gets I can't see my enthusiasm waning. I have been bitten by the running bug I do feel. As some of you that are following my progress will know, I am just about to finish week 3 tomorrow (so still a newbie I suppose).
I am fancying a race. Not any time soon, I am thinking of an overall aim of a 10k race in September 2017, and when I say a race, I'm not racing anyone, call it a personal challenge. My Dad died in 2014 and the hospice that looked after him in his last 48 hours were invaluable. I'd love to raise some more money for them (we have already raised quite a bit for them). I am thinking that hopefully this length of time should be plenty to be ready in that time. I wouldn't be able to book on it until next year anyway, but it's a target that I want to aim for.
Do people think this is likely to be achievable in 16 months ish? Obviously I've got 12 months to make a final decision on whether I think I will be physically capable of it, but I'm really quite taken by the idea.

Hi Miller2! I think it is great that you are enjoying your running so much. It certainly is addictive as many of us on here can testify😀 - myself included! A10k race is a great target and is definately achievable - even sooner if you so wish! You may even decide to sign up to for a 5k first over the summer or after graduating? Either way, I think it is a lovely idea to do one in memory of your dear Dad. I did a Race for Life a few years ago in memory of my Dad who we lost to cancer many years ago. It was a very moving experience knowing I was doing it for him and raising a few funds for such a good cause at the same time. Good luck🙂
I'm also thinking of a 5k for fun at some point. I'm going to wait until I have graduated first. I'm a snail at running so when I graduate I have no doubt I won't be running 5k (which I'm fine with), but I would hope I have the stamina to go that little bit further to get to 5k not long after, then I'll do a 5k race to see how I get on. Then I can start working up to 10k. Hopefully. Legs permitting. I'd love to raise money for the hospice. I might try to rope my husband in since his mum died there too (would you believe in the same room on the same date as my Dad who died there 2 years later). Cancer is a total bastard (excuse my language but it is) and that hospice was amazing and helping to fund it is important to me as I know it helps others who find themselves in the same situation that we did.
Yes, I do think it is possible. Seven years ago, I did the C25K the first time, started in May 09 and was able to run a 10K by the October. I was rather slow though!
