Illness be gone Quest week 1

I'm sorry so many of us seem to be getting this horrible lurgy that's doing the rounds and some of us are suffering so much at the moment. I thought we could all show solidarity by being part of the quest that helps us all get to good health and off the IC by the end of the six weeks so even if you not out there at the moment and are laid up feel free to join. We can send you weekly good wishes.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

A slow week recovery this week for me hopefully more swimming than running and then start to get ready for my 2 events in three days for sport relief. A 1.5km swim on the Friday and a 6 mile on the Sunday. Happy running and healing to all. Positive wishes being sent out.

Count me in again please and having had a 2 week lurgy in December my thoughts are with those of us who are not feeling so good for whatever reason so I join in with the chant ' Illness be gone!!!'.

Goals this time are to continue to run 10k at the weekend and have one 11k run before the end of the quest. I am also going my first ever race and it's a 10k trail run. I'd better turn up and complete that! Also want to start swimming again, but realistically I'm setting my goal at two swims in the 6 week quest. Finally, I managed to run 52 miles in January so I'd like to keep my mileage for Feb at over 50 as well. Good luck everyone x

...... Or in my case : " Teeth be gone " Ha ha ! :-)

Fab idea for the Quest , RFC !

Healing , TLC and soothing vibes to all those on the IC ((( )))

I am in please . I am going to do a minimum of 2 runs per week . I would like to do 3 but sometimes I get carried away with myself and tend to overdo it and end up back on the IC .

I have a Yoga DVD that I keep threatening to try so I am going to have a go at that instead of the 3rd run for a bit .

Good Luck fellow questers ! :-) xxx

I'm in I have had 2 viruses already this year so don't want any more ! Had to have 2 weeks off with 2nd virus but managed to get out for a 5k on Saturday and managed it in 36.24 not bad as was only just better so didn't want to push myself ! I just want to run 3 times a week for now as weather is often against me ! So 'ILLNESS BE GONE' ! :)

Yes, indeedy, what with one thing and another I find myself as almost 'the Well One' in my family, and indeed social circle, which is deeply ironic.

I'm in for this Quest please, as ever.

My two main objectives for the next six weeks are personal weight loss, having crept over the line in post Christmas eating up (and finding some of my clothes oddly tight - some blubber, some bloat perhaps), and moral support for my husband, modelling a healthy lifestyle all round.

I think this is likely to mean more of an emphasis on swimming and walking rather than running as such. (Easier to get out for a walk than a run because of timing meals etc)

I'm not going to make it any more specific than that at this stage, I'll see what, if anything emerges.

Perhaps the one thing anyone could do, even if injured or felled by a lurgi (maybe *especially* if) is a regular meditation or relaxation practice of some sort....

Definately in again. I'm going to stick with my target of 3 runs a week - knowing that the first week will be hard as I'm on a course Saturday/Sunday and its pretty full on. So Next weekend's run my be a symbolic 30 minutes when I get home Sunday night.

Hi RFC Thanks for organising this for us, yet again. You're a star!

Yep, count me in!

Training for a 10k race at the beginning of March. Training going well and on schedule. Doing physical jerks on non-running days to get stronger. Running 3 or 4 times a week.

Good luck fellow questers!

Count me in again please rfc.

Goals?? Keep plodding on!

More of the same really... as many runs as possible around work and life.

Lose a bit more weight and/or dont gain any more. Tone up the abs and get rid of the belly.

And drink less cider - thats never gonna happen ;)

Thanks rfc and good luck everyone.

Less cider... Good goal. Maybe next time ;)

Count me in RFC. I'm aiming for a distance PB this quest - anything over 13.05. As long as the weather cooperates I should reach my goal :)

Count me in please, I want to get at least 2 runs a week under my belt. Aiming for 3 but work schedule is a bit crazy just now which has an impact.😐

I'm in too, RFC. Certainly won't be turning in any km for the first week but hopefully will in subsequent weeks.

Good luck to everyone on the IC and off, and hope all the gallant participants in the recent Winter Run series of races are recovering nicely after their exertions :)

Coddfish profile image

Please count me in again, certainly to do at least 2 runs and 2 swims each week. I would also like to get a bit faster but I think that maybe a hope too far.

What a great quest- I just did my first run post injury and will wait over the next two days to see how I feel after it!

Aims this quest:

-Try to not get another injury this month!

-Build up to 3x run a week again

-Keep up the yoga once or twice a week

-Add in some strengthening workouts (squats and planks) with my yoga on days off

Lets see how it goes. At the moment I just want to run injury free again

Excellent title for this Quest, and thanks for organising it and us yet again, Rfc. Please count me in.

The 'illness' I am battling is just that of CBA-ness, I'm afraid, the lurgy of lassitude and the self-doubt of depression are what's getting in my way at the moment. However, the first step is admitting it, and the second step is to lace up and get out of the door on sunny mornings when I can - which I did this morning, I'm pleased to say.

So my goal for this Quest will be realistic again, to run once a week. I have a 'race' planned for what I think will be the last week (6th March?) so that's something to aim for, with some nice bling to bring home.

Happy running to all those who can, and 'illness be gone' to all those on the IC.

I would like to join the quest please Realfoodieclub....I am on week 3 of a 10 k plan and really want to stick to it. Also hope to get swimming at least once a week. Managed that this week! Good luck everyone..and don't get blown away...

Fitfor60 profile image

Think I'm going to aim for same as last quest.

*Try and eat healthier

*Once a week try and do at least couple of short- very short- spurts between lamposts.

Oh and better try and do a 10 k run as have a 10 k trail race at Glentress with Lissiebeth in 3 weeks.

Hello, I'm late to check in this week, but please count me in RFC. I hope the run went well over the weekend!

During this quest, I will begin to train for a 10k in May, but I'll have a slow start because I'm traveling and I STILL haven't submitted my thesis. I ran 20k last week to test out a training plan. It went well, I was much stronger than I expected. This week, I aim to fit three runs into five days, and then I'm traveling to Italy for a week.

Have a great week, everyone, illness be gone!

dagshar profile image

I missed this earlier this week, hope it's not too late 😉

My aim is to survive my trail half marathon at the end of Feb on the day of my first runniversary and to recover well afterwards. I think that will do for now.

Hehe I think that's enough. HM is a Quest in its own right never mind adding in a trail one. I'm sure you going to be fine. I've added your name.

I would like to join the quest, started couch to 5k this week so in week 1 and struggling soooo my quest is to just keep doing it and run 3 times a week. Thanks

Realfoodieclub profile image

I've added your name. Normally we say the quest Is for after grauation but as your only looking to make sure you run three times a week it's ok. I worry if people join the quest before graduation they will start to want to complete weeks when they are not quite ready. I have added your name to the week 3 quest.

Not what you're looking for?
