I am the proud owner of a Forerunner 235, complete with a 20-page A4 owners' manual ..... Now I do consider myself to be reasonably tech savvy, but am gonna say...looks kind of complicated..... Nil desperandum. Will have it figured out in time for next run tomorrow - I can see am on verge of becoming obsessed 😬

Nb any tips gratefully received x

Ditch the notoriously unhelpful garmin guide and look on YouTube ☺

Enjoy

I have the forerunner 10 (which I assume is less complicated) but the guide still had me bamboozled.

Worst case scenario - ask son/daughter to help... But don't want to give them the satisfaction 👹

Hiya SH123, glad to hear about the FR235. I've been a big advocate of this model of running watch. I too got one for Christmas, and whilst I have not tried all the features, have been able to download a new watch-face from ConnectIQ, go for a 5km parkrun and sync it via bluetooth so that I get notifications, weather etc from my iPhone.

Contact me if you need any guidance. The hardest thing with any Garmin watch is finding the 'Settings; menu, which is hidden inside the 'Run' screen.

Quick 'button' summary:

Top left - backlight, and press-and hold to turn the watch on/off.

Bottom left - two navigation buttons to go up and down through lists displayed on the watch.

Top Right - the 'run' button but actually is the 'Select' or 'Enter' button.

Bottom Right - 'back' button takes you back up a menu.

As a chappy, my FR235 is black with grey underside of strap. I've got an analog watch-face, with blue hands.

Yes the menu was a hugger to find. Eventually Located it and entered my stats, although left the 'heart rate' bit. I am about to go out with it this morning, I think I have basic functions going, no bells and whistles yet; I like the idea of a fancy new watch face - how the bejeezus did you do that??? Will play with it later and try to suss out some of the other bits. Thanks for the info!

Mine is a black face with a pale blue girly strap 👌. I love it already, even tho I haven't used it yet....

Ah, this is one of the reason we have husbands. Whatever we can't do or find it too hard and complicated, hubby can do it.

Not sure mine can handle this.... 😂

Lol in my house it's me that gets given the complicated electronics to set up and show my husband the basics to keep him going ..... I do the flatpack as well ;)

In our house we have very clearly demarcated 'Pink' jobs and 'Blue' jobs.

Sorting out recycling: blue job.

Everything financial: blue job.

Preparing dinner: blue job.

Loading/unloading washing machine: blue job.

Keeping abreast of news: blue job.

DIY, tidying up, pairing socks... blue job.

Eastenders, Facebook, ironing, painting with gloss paint: pink job.

I'm excitedly awaiting my "Amazon Boxing Day Deal" Garmin Forerunner 15, which is due for delivery today. My brain seemed to give up on new technology once I turned 50 but I have 5 adult children who will heave large sighs and roll their eyes at their technologically-challenged mother but will then actually sort it out for me. And hopefully the 15 is simpler than the 235 anyway!! Good luck and enjoy! :-) xx

Darling husband bought me the 15 with the Heart monitor for Christmas - what a gem - love it.

Well Ive used it now - and it's BRILLIANT - now to sync to phone for extra geekdom and obsessive over-analysis of stats/data etc. Oh the fun I'll have x
