Running: I am 62 never run before 2 stone over... - Couch to 5K
Running
Unequivocally, yes. There's no age thing here. I ran a mile race yesterday and was out sprinted by a 70 year old (I'm 52, not that it matters). All that matters is that you do the programme at your own pace.
Come in Kemp. You can do this and we're all with you.
Last September I was a 59 year old, overweight, unfit smoker. Next September I shall be a fit ex-smoker who is still overweight, but who has lost around two stone. Come on in, the water's lovely
YEs. Yes. And yes again. This plan is designed for young and old, middle aged and late middle aged....in fact....EVERYONE!
Start it. You will not regret it and you'll live longer. There. Said it!
Yes again. Assuming you have made the decision you want to be fitter and healthier, there is no better, safer and more consistent way to start that I know of than C25k.
57 year old, started just over a year ago having never run a bath, lost 4 stone 2 lbs and never felt so fit!
Just do it!
definitely...there are a lot of people older and bigger than you on here.... We are all here to support new people through the programme... my mum did it at 62, and I also ran with my friend through the programme and she was 20 stone.... get out there, do your thing, enjoy and report back
Welcome to our happy band of C25K advocates. You'll be encouraged, motivated, inspired and generally helped along your way here. C25K is 100% designed for you. Get started, ask all the questions that you want on this forum, and before you know it, you'll be hooked. And fitter, trimmer and looking out for opportunities to run further and faster.
1st bit of advice - forget all the clever gear and apps for your smart-phone. Start off with the podcast, it'll work with any MP3 player or phone and is much more reliable than the various apps that you'll find.
Yes definitely. I started at 58, still going at 60 and intend to keep going into my 70ies! You won't regret it. Take it nice and slow and steady - it's not a race ( until you want it to be)!
Yes definitely. I'm 57 and just finished week 6. Never run before and still can't quite get my head round how it works - but it does! Added bonus is I've lost 5 pounds so far. Use the forum because you get so much support and encouragement just reading peoples posts and replies. I use the podcasts and you need to develop blind faith - if Laura says you can - you can!! Good luck
Yes yes yes and def yes-- get the message Kemp? I started 18 months ago Really really unfit and head not in good place. Really struggled with first 30 secs of running on programme You get the picture
Now this 61 yr old feels great , lost 3 stone and am running 1st Half Marathon on Sunday ( still can't believe it )
So go for it . Word of advice - do exactly what nhsc25k tells you to do and go slow and slower still. At first I could walk faster than I could run! And look on this forum cos you won't meet a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk . Good luck and let us know how you get on.
last June I was 56, over 20st, and an Olympic level couch potato. I graduated in march? and now weigh a smidgeon over 16st. c25k just works (so long as there's no medical reason not to run). It's not easy and your legs will hurt, but you'll feel fitter and the sense of achievement is awesome.
Couck to 5 k is amazing! I don't know how or why but it seems to work for everybody. I started in January and graduated in April. If you trust Laura, run at your own pace - not too fast, you should be fine. After my first run it was quite a shock to my system. I'd done quite a bit of walking but running was a very different feeling. I thought I'd never reach Week 9, but I did! I'm still surprised! Every run I completed was an achievement for me and encouraged me to go on.........if I can do it I'm sure you can too....it's worth the effort to feel slimmer, fitter and know you can do it!
Go for it I am 67 and its what keeps me alive. Take it easy and just enjoy.
Definitely yes from this 58 year old who started in January. There's an 80 plus gentleman who started doing my local Parkrun about the same time as me, who can get round the course faster than I can! Take your time, listen to your body, but definitely do it.
Yes, yes, yes! I am 57, several stone overweight, and I have just completed the programme today and it actually wasn't that bad. I feel on top of the world, and you will too if you just stick with it. My advice, take it slowly (run as slow as you can to start with) and don't skip any of the sessions.
Good luck!
