Reached my goal distance of 8.5k in just a smidge under 1 hour - chuff, chuff, chuffety chuffed!
I'd had a couple of slow paced (but tough going) runs in the previous week (under the weather, bad weather, so a few sleepless nights, and the prolonged period of over-over-indulgence) and thought I'd have to shelve my self-scheduled long run given the weather conditions (snow lying & sleet coming & going), so set out from my usual start point thinking I might find a non-slippery 4k out there.
Turned out not so bad under foot and I explored a track I'd never been down before, finding an extra 2k to add to my out and back route...by the time I approached my where-I'd-started point, I was at 6-ish k. My breathing was good & I was feeling more comfortable with the run than I had to date and my pace was great (for me)! I knew I could find another few K+, so went for it....2 degrees, diagonal sleet, but surpringly pleasant! What has become of the old me?! I love this running malarky...I had the biggest smile on my face all the way home, warming down!
Still smiling now....

great run Tkik well done you that is how i felt last week on my slightly longer run fingers crossed it is the same tomorrow for me ( only 6-6.5k for me )
It was fun, Gonti...unbelievably!! I started with c25k in August and can't believe how much I love the running...the exploring/discovery just gave a real lift
Cool Snails and a fantastic achievement - well done - this malarky is wonderful - there is something quite simple but awesome in running in bad weather. Well done.
Hi Soggy Snails - I am very pleased with Sir Thomas - I like the fact that I can change the straps so easily and be colour coordinated - in fact I have reached a level of colour co-ordination in my running gear which I have never had in my normal clothing. I did forget to change the strap last week and went to a meeting in severe 3 piece suit with flourescent lime green watch - personally I think it is a good look How are the snails? cartoonstock.com/directory/...
Pretty good, distance slowly creeping up! It's finding the time to go out 3 x a week in daylight! Don't tell anyone but I've signed up for a 10k end of March!!! Eeeek, pressure! Got up to 7.25 so far... Bring it on xxx
I am going to sign up for the 10k in Glasgow that's at the end of August...there, I've said it now, so I'm gonna have to do it. :s My daughter is going to join me...wahaaay! There's tea and cake at the end...she'll do anything for tea and cake!! xx
I am pretty scared, I signed up after a few too many New Year drinks!! My main concern is coming in last.... I'm very slooooow! But if I tell myself that it doesn't matter it WONT- right yeah??! I did check out last years results of the Eastleigh 10k ( they say it's flat & fast) and I'd like to think I'll be ok. Currently my 7.25k takes 50 mins.... but it's fairly uphill..... Really scared now, talking about it makes it real! Hope I get tea and cake too
Your 7k-+ hilly-ish is about the same as mine...about what you'd expect for fairly newbies of a certain age I'd have thought.
I don't like putting myself under pressure, 'cause that's when it becomes serious and not so much fun. But I've been looking at this one for a month or more and Sunday's 8.5k, in at what I think is a reasonable pace for me, and feeling fairly comfortable too, convinced me that I might be able to at least finish a 10k (I would hope so by August, anyway!).
Plus, my girl will be there too. We've been for a few runs together - she's fairly fit and can manage a 30 minute 4k run/walk, so far; will be fun doing a bit of 'training' and park runs together when she's home on her relief weeks.
Aliens...yes, it must be - I was taken in August and they have deposited a different model back ere on this earth!
'tis snowbound today - not taking my chances with nutter drivers who haven't bothered to clear their windscreens (and, to be fair, visibility isn't great when it's snowing) and too much tree debris from the storms in the woods, so gonna dance instead!!
I still do the odd air punch after a hard run and warm down with a silly grin on my face and I find that a new route always brings out the extra mile in me.
Funny how we all seem to enjoy running in the rain and wind - mad innit?!
I did over 10.5 k today; did my 5k and sort of kept running. I thought I'd take advantage of the lack of wind and rain and make high while the sun shone, which seemed to disappear soon as I hit the streets
Did you get out for a 10k or are you snowed in? I think we are forecast some grot weather for tomorrow. Tsk! Typical it's dog walking day.
No 10k today or yet...that'll be something I attempt in the next month, or so.... MW!! I'm a baby beginner runner, me...
Today I just danced instead...oh, yes...really (sensible yoga yesterday...I'm on a New Year mission!)
It's near whiteout here with a few inches of fluffy white stuff lying... storms are forecast here-ish again, but will try to squeeze in my usual 30 minuters over the Rest of the week!
Nearly finished work, fire's toasty, roast going in..is it too early for jammys??
Same to you. I cooked up a storm yesterday so looking forward to eating it tonight. Moroccan lamb veggie spicy casserole with brown rice
Dog walking tomorrow, so the weather will be foul. It always is on day walk day. The dog, bless im, seems to prefer rotten weather. It seems to make his sap rise and he goes all daft.
