Calf pain

My calf muscle really hurts. It feels like it is as tight as it can possibly get. I am not a runner, and this did not happen doing any exercise. About a year ago I tore my calf muscles in the same leg. How do I get it to loosen up and stop hurting?

So I am not a doctor/physio, but I reckon you will need to stretch repeatedly and get some massage into it often. This doesn't have to be overt. You can stretch just standing on a step with you heel over the edge or even rolling your foot in circles when sitting down, but It is definitely going to take time. Good luck.

Had the same problem. A few sessions with a skilled sports massage therapist sorted me out. No go once a month to keep it in check.

might be worth getting it checked out by doctor if it persists

Windswept, and have it referred to a good physio, because doctors only prescribe pain killers; some ice in a towel may help too and Ibuprofen gel or Voltaren or some such embrocation.

Only slight movement is good, but don't increase the pain by running onto it!

I have had the same problem, with recurring calf injuries. This usually ends up with me giving up trying to run...this time, I went to a physio (why didn't I do that before?!). I had two proper sports massages on my calf - brilliant. He made me take a proper break from running - for me that was 3 weeks. I did calf raise exercises to strengthen the muscle - once the muscle has been damaged there will always be a weakness.... I have been building up again really slowly and gradually - currently at week 6 again, and so far, so good.

I've had the burning calf issue myself. I found that if I went into a deep lunge position and leaned my weight back on my calf I could get a good stretch and would get the burning mid-run.
