Some parkruns are on YouTube so you can get an idea of the actual course before you turn up (very good for newbies like me and takes the uncertainty away).
Just type in Parkrun routes or the name of your local one and see if it's there. I've already seen Southampton, Preston, Chippenham, Cambridge, Newbury, Ipswich, Milton Keynes!

Thank you for posting this, it was really helpful. I've just looked at the Darley Abbey run and decided it's not for me yet! There's a nasty hill in it which you have to do not once, but twice, and it comes at the end of the second lap - not kind Also, much of it is on grass so I think I'll put it off until late Spring now. More time to get my 5k times a bit more solid!
I looked up the Plymvalley one which is near me. Enjoyable to watch, but I think I'll wait until I graduate and progress to running 5K unlike the brave guys in this one.
