I don't think my duffle coat will do the job

I don't think my duffle coat will do the job
I got some nice Mizuno winter tights and a long sleeve breathable top. Not yet had to wear them, but the time I'd definitely coming!
I have ordered a long sleeve top from Start Fitness startfitness.co.uk/ladies/c... - but today I actually went and bought a running vest! It has still been pretty warm and I keep melting in a t-shirt. I did pick up a pair of running gloves today as well cos I know my hands will be getting cold soon. I think maybe I will get a gilet as it gets colder and see how that works.
Have a hat for walking, unsure about a hat for running, but need something for the ears! Fancy one of those fleece head band type affairs, unsure what they are called!
Hi Lady P, you need a buff !
They are brilliant, they have their own website but I think Im going to get a cheaper alternative from Sports Direct xxx
Thank you PoppyPug, I will check out Sports Direct as well!
Last year I wore the same but added a buff and swopped the vest for a t shirt if really cold. My son gets quite cold on long runs so I bought him some gloves. Lidl and Audi have had lovely merino stuff too but I overheat!!! A hat keeps the hot air in too. Happy winter running
I too have stocked up from sports direct - a buff (indispensable for keeping my earphones from falling out too), a fleecy hat and a high viz rain jacket. I also bought some running tights and a couple of long sleeve tops. I find that layering is important as I quickly overheat, and spend a lot of time trying, un elegantly, to strip off whilst running! So sleeves need to be stretchy enough to pull over my Garmin. I also have an ICE merino gilet that I found in tkmaxx ages ago - it's great because it has pockets and keeps my body warm, but I can have my arms bare once I heat up.
Also, if you have a Costco near you, they have some great cheap running gear at the moment - gloves, base layers and lightweight running jackets.
My shopping habits have changed hugely since I took up running - I now find myself heading to shops I would have avoided at all costs prior to C25K!
When I first heard mention of buff, I thought it was as "running in the buff"
You learn a lot here.
The rule-of-thumb is to always dress as though it's 10 degrees warmer than it is. You will very quickly warm up, even on cold, crisp days, and a coat is just something to take off and carry. A long sleeved top, with possibly a t shirt over, shorts or leggings (to protect the knees) and a hat and gloves if it is nippy.
Try different combinations, and get ready to wear surprisingly little, even on really cold days.
Wet weather is different again...
I added a buff, hat and gloves last year, with calf length or long leggings and a long sleeve t-shirt. For me as long as my head and hands are warm the rest seems OK.
I did start C25K wearing my mac....if I'd had a duffle coat I would probably have been wearing that. I ran on little woodland paths through wet bilberry bushes in a long knitted skirt. I look back and wonder... but then again, I know if I'd had to get gussied up before I set out it would never have happened.
Just a point to note: the oft-quoted "dress as though it's 10 degrees warmer than it is" refers to 10°F. For those of us who use Celsius, that is about 5.5°C.
The general rule of thumb is dress as if it was 10 degrees warmer. Having say that, I posted about my experience last week. Here is the link.

Hope this helps,
Buff is the way to go. I love my buffs
I also have a lightweight hooded full front zip running top
The front zip is good because. Can take it off as I warm up without stopping. In the winter I wear a baseball cap to keep the warmth in. I have a long sleeved running top for very very cold weather but are usually ok with just short sleeves and my zipped hoodie. I go into long running tights because my legs get a bit cold in capris.
Good advice thanks
your not wearing your duffle, why ever not !!
