just started this running malarkey and really enjoying it....however I know that ive got to get some new trainers but thinking some new clothes too. I normally go in an old pair to joggers (to hide the wobbly bits) and a t shirt. any recommendations on what tops yo wear (already got a good sports bra as do zumba 3 times a week too) .....I know I will get confused in a sports shop :-)

Do you run outside? A high-vis jacket (with reflective trim) is useful, for safety & also keeps rain showers off. The zip up pockets are also useful for keys, tissues, inhalers etc) Nice running socks ( with arch support and / or extra toe & heel padding) will make you a lot comfier, too. The rest is just personal preference, I suppose. Well done on starting!

Oh, and for the record, sports shops scare the hell out of me! Once you know what size you are in brands you like, go online. TK Maxx sometimes have good stuff, too.

Get her on board to do the C25K and you can swap ideas for best clothing etc : )

Shock absorber for a bra, expensive but worth every penny. Debenhams stock them. I have very large lady lumps (size G) and they don't move with a shock absorber. primarni for Lycra leggings aka running tights, they are v. Cheap and wash extremely well

I got a lot of running gear from Aldi and it's lovely, but cheap. I'm going back for some more.

Seconded on the shock absorber. I just took a chance buying one as it was on sale, and my goodness it is AMAZING!

I think Sports Direct is fab! You can get anything in there.

Get yourself a decent pair of shoes, you may need to go to proper running store for this. They are an investment.

I often treat myself when I have achieved my runs. When I graduate I really want a Garmin watch....It's my goal, can I win the lottery by then? Probably not!

got several over the shoulder boulder holders by shock absorber. ..chespest place for them is amazon. they are a god send to keep the lady lumps in one place. I shop at aldi so will have a look. if I get a "proper" pair of jogging/ running trainers.....will it help stop the pain I got last night on the inside of my shins or is that because I didn't warm up properly? :-)

People who've experienced leg pains often report improvement once they've bought proper supportive running shoes. Be careful with shin pains though, as running through them can make them worse.

All my running gear ( except shoes, bra and C25K T-shirt) were bought at Lidl. I got really good capri and full - length leggings, plus long -sleeved tops. They seem to stock running/cycling stuff fairly frequently at incredibly reasonable prices ....plus it washes well and still looks like new .

My running trousers (full length and capris) have all come from Sainsburys. Most of my running tops are from Sports Direct, as is my high vis (but not waterproof) jacket. I still need to get a proper running waterproof but haven't found what I want in SD.

You need to be comfortable above all else, and for me I have my trusty capris with a zip for my stuff, and a running vest or long top with thumb holes. I never go

out without my sweatband for absorbing sweat and a buff for blowing my nose! I can't advise on sports bras I'm afraid as I have small tits!!!!

To start, other then the shoes, I bought on-line from Sports Direct. I got a Lonsdale Bra, I'm a DD and for now it's fine, I wouldn't want to spend more until I felt my running was more high impact ! I got a proper running top ( invaluable with all that sweating), a light waterproof jacket ( it's very wet & cold where I live even in the summer!), a light sweatshirt ( any will do, but I didn't have one) and wore tracksuit bottoms. The only thing I've really needed since is a sweatband, not just for the sweat, but to cover ears on chilly days ( a hat is too much for me). Tho' I was worried about spending on a waterproof ( even at under £20 when you add the cost of the shoes & top etc. it was getting a bit much...) I've not regretted it at all - it's got me out when perhaps I'd have made excuses, added an extra layer when perhaps that sweatshirt was too much ..... I've just graduated and bought my self a proper pair of running trousers to celebrate :-) My advice? Look at the on-line bargains, I've just discovered Wiggle, but try on for size & fit in stores. Enjoy running :-)

Hello I am only on week 1 so not an expert but I got my gait analysed in DW Sports last week and they were excellent, free no obligation advice and they didn't try to sell me the most expensive. I ended up with a pair of trainers for £55 which i am v happy with. Beyond that I just wear cheap jogging trousers and cotton t shirt plus headband to keep my ear phones it, all of which I already had.I read cotton is not good when you start sweating and you need a proper running top that "wicks" away the moisture, but this is not really a problem in January! I also got an armband to put my phone inand i already had a fluorescent vest so i can be seen.

In all honesty I hate running unless I run in shorts I think they are great more freedom etc so for me my addidas running shorts are great (on sale in sports direct) and also make sure you dont run in anything cottern it holds on to the sweat like you wouldn't believe I have a fab Nike running top it doesnt have any sleves because i again love the freedom it has just that little extra bra support even tho i wear a shock absorber the support makes a diffrence. However it all comes down to what you are comfy in running in!
